Whole Foods Market, or your natural grocer

We have very little specialty organic chain stores here, there are the occasional organic supermarkets here and there but they're not always easy to find. I tend to shop at the local farmer's market more than anywhere else, as they always have fresh produce at reasonable prices.

Belowen if you're in New South Wales or Victoria...you should find your local Thomas Dux!!! Theyre beautiful and amazing...they specialise in gourmet foods, gluten free and organic foods!!

neato! i'm so glad i found this thread! i was considering starting a TJ's thread but this is even better.

OMG has anyone tried the new Pizza Piadina? it's mind-blowing good and i can't believe how delicious/ simple/ and quick it is (bake 5minutes!). the tangy fresh arugula is so tasty and the perfect compliment for the 4 cheeses. i wish they'd provide more. and rather than dirtying a bowl i just dump the lemon vinaigrette dressing straight into the bag and shake it.think i've bought like 5 in the past week:ninja:

and as i write this i'm making a nice dent in my box of TJ's dark chocolate peanut butter cups, purchased only this afternoon. i don't even like PB that much and i bought this for my hubby whos the PB addict. they're too good and probably won't purchase again!

the other health food store i frequent is Marlene's Market and Deli. they have a nice natural food deli/cafe and grocery section and their natural/organic beauty department is the best. over-priced admittedly but i love to browse and price out my options. most of the time Super Supplements has the same beauty products for a few dollars cheaper but their selection is not as good.

I actually love Whole Foods I eat there when I'm in the city because its a lot healthier than going to the food court at the mall plus they have lots of great things like their gelato bar and bakery.

The first time I ate at the WFM salad bar, I walked away with a $12 salad. Skip the heavy stuff and get the light stuff instead. ^_^ And put the dressing on after.

I prefer the food co-op or Trader Joe's. Whole Foods is nice once in a while but I don't prefer it.

We have our own natural grocery here, Capers, that is now owned by Whole Foods-and another one called Choices is popular too, but many supermarkets here sell some organic/natural items.

I try to avoid shopping there if I can mainly because of the prices. Last week when I went in, organic blueberries were $8/lb. $8! You can get them much cheaper at some of the small specialty grocers who have organic produce. Plus, none of the organic produce is local either-it's all shipped from California. I'd much rather find a farmer's market and support local farmers instead.

I do like some of their house brand 365 products because they're quite reasonable. I'm trying to eat less gluten too, so I like all the gluten free products they have-although for many of them, I can get them for less at a larger chain.

I'm not sure how it is where you live, but here I notice that organic produce is much more expensive than organic produce elsewhere, but specialty items (eg. organic cereal, gluten free waffles, etc) are cheaper at Whole Foods (unless another store is having a sale).

I wish we had Trader Joe's-I hear so many great things about all of their items.

I too am a Trader Joe's fanatic. I do 90% of my grocery shopping there. They've sporadically opened new locations in Chicago in the last couple years... on September 9th they're opening a location three blocks from my apartment in the South Loop!!

I like Whole Foods as well, but their prices can be ridiculous. The one item that will get me to go out of my way to WF is their selection of dry granolas (much better and less sweet that granolas at TJ's).

They're definitely worth a visit! (on a side note, they're owned by Woolworths)

I remember my Mum loving Macro when I was young, but we moved away and i think many of their stores closed down.

I am so jealous of the US with Wholefoods and Trader Joes!

I love peanut butter, but I hate that most at the store have oils that aren't good for you (I forget the name of them) and my friend who only eats organic told me to go to Whole Foods. For the people that go there, are there peanut butters healthier for you? He also told me I can make my own there..is that true?

I'll occasionally go to whole foods, but I prefer to support local small businesses.

I've got a Trader Joe's and a Whole Foods right across the street from each other about 10 minutes from my house. The downside is - they're full of premade, processed crap. Organic crap, but still crap nonetheless.

I get fresh sprouted grain bread from TJs, and will occasionally pick up from fruit or veg if it's a good price, but it's generally cheaper at the farmer's market, unless it is Winter.

At WF, I get a few beauty products, and they happen to carry local milk and yogurt which is organic and pastured. I also get my ethical, pastured eggs from here if I don't have time to go get my eggs from the farmer's market across town. I tend to get my Kerrygold pastured butter here as well, because the prices are surprisingly the lowest most of the time. I also get kombucha, because I have yet to figure out brewing it myself. I'll get fruits or veg here organic that I can't get from the farmer's market, or if I'm in a rush.

Most of the aisles are boxed things I'd not make or eat (and overpriced!), so I don't shop much at either one, although they are great for the few specific things I always have on my list.

i now live less than 15 minutes away from TJ and WF . but the cool thing about Seattle is that even the mainstream, non natural/holistic grocers around here stock a wide range of natural, organic foods and products. WF carries juice BEAUTY which Sephora stopped carrying and now i don't have to drive 50 miles for their Organic Facial Moisture Concentrate. The scent is amazing and works beautifully alone or a drop with regular moisturizer.

i have to rave about the Greek Gods Fig Yogurt. It's locally made and the most heavenly yogurt i've ever tasted. loaded with flavor and fat but wow it's worth every calorie. oddly enough the yogurt on top tastes like rich, frothy latte but still tastes yummy mixed together with the fig preserves on the bottom, which seems like endless amounts of fig. it comes in a purple container.
