Wierd Fashion

I don’t know if it’s just me being closed-minded/ traditional, but don’t a lot of brand new styles from both old and new designers look abit…confused, misguided, ugly?


I will use the following pieces as examples and you tell me your overall impressions. I would hope that I am not alone but you never know – maybe it’s me who is insane!


Calvin Klein

????? something you would find in Oxfam??

Could this actually clash any MORE?







Dior

Although a lot of the rest of the collection was nice…


Chloe

Lanvin (although I LOVE a couple of pieces)

Not flattering AT ALL IMHO.

My personal opinion is that you may only be seeing the obvious surface of the designs. And yes, on the surface, there is a lot of "strange" stuff around. But if you look further and deeper into a lot of designs, you'll find a lot of beauty. A lot of stuff that seems to traditionally clash to most people can be quite nice if looked at with open eyes and mind.

And then there's stuff that clashes and/or is just plain ugly and unflattering.

Regarding the outfits you posted, I don't find any of them terribly unattractive or attractive. You could find much more unappealing clothing than that. I also find it interesting that you liked the rest of Dior, which I basically found absolutely disgusting, clashing, trashy, and all-around abominable.

I guess it just depends on how you look at things...

It all looks plain bad more than weird. The Lanvin actually looks really good though. You'd need to be waif-like thin to wear it but it still looks good.

Umm..I don't see ANYTHING wrong with those outfits you posted, I don't think they're weird at all. A bit boring to me. Though I do like the Proenza and Chloe.

Me neither, they may not be the colletion highlights but I like them. This may be weird, but when it fits the concept of the show even that can be nice:

Yes, now THAT is weird but I think it's just mainly her hair and that capelet thing. I would totally rock that skirt. I think weird is more Comme De Garcon than Calvin Klein.

Well, I agree that some things that would conventionally clash, look great - but that one that I said clashed, god - that just goes beyond 'unusual' chic =/ (imho).

i think those ck pants and the black lanvin dress are really pretty.. maybe it's just about how you wear them, some pieces are really good but look ugly on the runway OR on the model OR sometimes it's just the way the designer pulled it all together. I dont know really

Avant-garde usually tends to be "weird" to most people. Although I wouldn't call any of those designs avant-garde.

Those Lanvin's seemed to havr drawn inspiration from Cristobal Balenciaga. Or at the very least Lacroix's balloon skirt.

That's what I was thinking. However, I never did like those bell or balloon skirts. They look stiff and awkward on everybody, from svelte and graceful models to ordinary women on the street. Yves St. Laurent, when he was still working for Christian Dior, did skirts like that in his H line, I think, and I thought those looked pretty awful, too. It is a late 1950s/early 1960s style that I always thought looked ungainly...like a fuller A-line skirt turned upside-down.

I like the Calvin Klein outfit a lot, but all the other ones are awful, except Lanvin...it's O.K., but I don't like it much.

Poor Jessica Stam, that outfit makes her look like she has a fat ***...not flattering at all...

I like all of it except the CK, which doesn't move me either way, and the Lanvin, which I dislike because it looks like clownwear.
