thanks for the HQ video MissIvana

i love your videos its good to see helena and karen too!! i always think of helena, yasmeen and karen as a trio. they came along at the same time rose up and hit supermodel status in 1991 joining the girls that satrted in the mid 80s ie linda, christy, naomi, cindy, tatiana and stephanie. the group widened thanks to gianni
Yasmeen is a true exotic and sexy beauty while still remaining fashion! I just wish there's a model right now who has a look similar to her and exudes a similar aura. I think the closest would have been Ujjwala and even she had been out of work for a few years already.
its so difficult to get an exotic non white non black girl to emerge and make it big. she needs to be distinctive looking to truly stand out, more than likely it will be a mixed race (asian and other like yas) tanned girl. she will need distinctive beauty and personality/charisma (which can be seen in the best catwalkers on the runway). but also timing which is beyond a models control. fashion is always changing and looking forward so maybe an exotic tanned look will come back again. who knows
part of yasmeen's success is down to her unusual genetic make up you don't find many half pakistani and half german girls like her. she is unusual and interesting to look at. she is this global being you have the european, asian and canadian side to her. the west & east dynamic and how sometimes the western side can dominate in her pictures and at other times the eastern.
all models of colour even mixed race models are finding it tough the paramiters of beauty have narrowed in this decade. it was still tough in the early 90s for an ethnic girl cause mixed parentage girls were popular. you had yasmeen, helena, christy, cindy what her parentage? where does he get her exotic looks from?) linda (italian father is that right?) nadege, naomi, claudia mason & brandi
depending on how "ethnic" you look you can find it hard to get campaigns plus covers is even harder especially if you want to appeal to a western audience. some of the industry think like this when it comes to the western market....."why have an exotic looking girl in a campaign when she could alienate some of the white consumers who can't identify or relate to her?" so by getting a white model for a campaign you don't have that issue. its the safe option.
yasmeen never got a solo US vogue cover (too exotic too risky?) in fact its so strange just thinking back even helena didn't why? was she also too exotic? i can't believe it, helena should have got a solo US Vogue cover easily. having said that both yasmeen and helena were embraced by US vogue and had name checks (a sign that you have hit supermodel status).
yasmeen was a "fashion supermodel" but she wasn't really a "media supermodel". there is a slight difference. her profile in the media was low only because she didn't date a rock star, date an actor, appear in a music video or film, sing, write a book, do a workout tape, do presenting, turn her status into a business/product.
for example i don't consider elle macpherson a fashion supermodel i haven't seen many layouts, runway or high profile campaigns with her, she wasn't embraced by designers and by vogue italia the way linda, christy, naomi, helena, yasmeen and karen were. what elle did was become a media supermodel doing interviews, work out tapes, acting etc in order to raise her status and get fashion work/covers. even heidi klum does she have a large and credible body of work in fashion? she is another media supermodel
omgz i wrote TOO MUCH!!
