YSL on DVD
Legendary designer docs available in January
NEW YORK: Monday, December 13, 2004
Just as reality media hit a crass and tawdry low, the genre took a decidedly elegant turn when Yves Saint Laurent opened the doors of his Parisian fashion house to director David Teboul. Over the course of three months, Teboul and his film crew observed the designer and his brilliant staff as they created the YSL’s penultimate clothing line. The footage is being released—for the first time ever—as part of a two part collector’s edition DVD set, which includes two feature-length films—His Life and Times and 5 Avenue Marceau 75116 Paris.
Narrated by YSL himself, His Life and Times offers an inside peek at the designer’s life, from his tormented childhood in Algeria to his years with Christian Dior and his own ascent to icon status. Interviews with Catherine Deneuve, Lee Radziwill, his mother, his business partner and companion Pierre Berge, and longtime muses Loulou de la Falaise and Betty Catroux, lend the memoir much intimacy, allowing viewers to get to know the man behind those famous spectacles like never before.
In 5 Avenue Marceau 75116 Paris, the famed house’s open doors reveal the intricacies of designing a collection, from the initial sketches to fully realized couture.
The YSL DVD set will be available January 25, 2004 for $26.98 by Empire Pictures.
