"Zara Boycott, Copyright Act and the Blogger Echo Chamber"

I mean, THAT is the thing .. like Bryanboy and the Marc Jacobs bag .. he didnt use the image but got a hold of the name and trying to hype himself on the blogger trend ... Zara more than DESERVES a slap on the hand

i was curious how f21 dealed with the whole blogger t-shirts thing. it seems they were much more sensible than zara people were. they contacted with all of the bloggers and all that stuff. and now they have some extra publicity on those blogs. definitely what zara should have done. they didn't even have to pay her.
funny how all the girls that are now on f21 tees feel so honoured while that betty girl acts super offended. and looking at her blog she wears zara a lot. i'm wondering if she's going to stop shopping at zara as a form of protest, haha.

I don't really have a problem with Zara imitating designers prints etc. because honestly not a lot of people can spend that kind of money. No one is going to boycott Zara, that's insane. I DO have a problem with a company using someones face and putting it on a t-shirt to make money. I think they are entirely two different things. One is understandable the other is creepy as hell.

Bloggers are a trend, very few of them will retain the same attention in 5 years.. Zara and Forever21 do trends, and often fill up their racks with some pretty desperate-looking stuff, like in this case.. don't see what's the big deal, I don't see Tavi or the more well-known girls complaining about it or being naive enough to call for a boycott.. it seems like the less known girl is the one that's stirring it up, I didn't know who she was so I visited her blog and.. I wonder if she's even after profit, sounds more like her ego is hurt and she had to make it public somehow at least by masking it as outrage, she probably expected some big press and even bigger announcement of a Zara-blogger collaboration.. the worst part is that she seems really convinced that she's some starving artist that's been abused by a big conglomerate.. leave that to Bliss Lau!........

Uh, Betty pretty much IS one of the best-known blogger girls out there. Maybe the NY Times etc don't talk her up cause she's French and 25, not 13, but her blog has lots of readers. And Zara has just done the same thing to Louise of misspandora.fr- let's face it, it is creepy to put someone's face on a t-shirt without their permission.

Wow, I absolutely love the Ganymede Kids entry on this. The writer really nailed it.

IIRC, Danny Roberts even sells shirts of his images that are based off copyrighted photographs. And almost every blogger loves sam edelmen, jeffrey campbell, zara, topshop, and other brands that rip off the big designers. I guess they suddenly hate knockoffs when its personal. Funny.

This seems to me a case of Betty's ever expanding ego based on her internet "fame". They did not steal her face. The image is the necessary 30 percent different. It is not a photograph of her face, it is an illustration very loosely based on a photograph of her.
