Zara Parent Reports Strong 2007

Published: Monday, March 31, 2008
By Robert Murphy
PARIS – Inditex, the retailer that owns Zara, on Monday said store openings drove profits up 25 percent last year and that sales have remained robust so far in 2008.

The Spanish firm said profits in the 12 months through Jan. 31 reached 1.25 billion euros, or $1.73 billion, ahead of analysts’ estimates.

Sales in the period grew 15 percent to 9.44 billion euros, or $13.07 billion, as Inditex aggressively opened stores in fast-growing markets from Russia to China.

Inditex said sales from Feb. 1 to March 23 increased 17 percent in local currencies, suggesting health among key fast-fashion players in a difficult market.

Inditex said it would continue to aggressively roll out stores, with 942 million euros, or $1.49 billion, earmarked for international expansion over the next 12 months.

Inditex opened 560 stores last year. As many as 640 stores are expected to open this year, the retailer said.

I have been to Zara a few times the past couple of weeks when I felt I needed some retail therapy, but nothing of the things currently in stores captures me. :( The only thing I was even slightly drawn to was a pair of plaid shorts, but I didn't even like them enough to feel it was worth it to go and take my jeans off in the dressing room to try them on.

Usually I can find lots of thing I want at Zara... This isn't fun at all.

it's so mean! the women's section is OVERFLOWING with all kinds of trenchcoats in all colors and there's hardly the same variety for men. i don't think there's even 3 different trenches in the mens section. matter of fact, i been there today and didnt see a single trench there. it's mindblowing.

tried the kids section. no luck either.

^ The Zara men in the store I go to always had nice stuff, like nice blazers & good accessories

I love your trench Al3ksandra!

I saw it today, it's a bomber jacket.
The kids section has some cute dresses ^_^

Oh, what a shame that you didn´t take a picture! I was looking for it today at my local store but I didn´t find it. :(

Al3ksandra - very nice things you´ve bought! Would love to get my hands on the scarf! How much was it?
