Zinedine Zidane Gossip

^^ I hope you'll teach them to play fair as well...

As far as I'm concerned and even if I am very pacifist, I would be more ashamed of my kid telling racist and sexist trash :yuk: than him defending his family's honour after being insulted. Definitely.

Also whatever the context. Because it seems standard to insult other players in soccer doesn't excuse trash talking. I really hope FIFA doesn't content itself with slogans and at last do something about racism.

*Update*

Zidane & Materazzi await verdicts

Zidane and Materazzi are expected to receive bans and fines

Zinedine Zidane and Marco Materazzi will discover on Thursday if they are to be punished for the World Cup final incident that led to Zidane's red card.

Zidane was dismissed in extra-time when he headbutted Italy's Materazzi in the chest after some verbal provocation.

The French captain said he headbutted the defender because he insulted his family, an allegation Materazzi denies.

The Inter Milan player has already given evidence to a Fifa committee, while Zidane will testify on Thursday.

Zidane, 34, is expected to receive a fine and a ban and could also be stripped of his Golden Ball award as the best player in the tournament.

But because the Frenchman retired after the final, any ban he receives for the headbutt will be academic.

Zidane will fly to Zurich to defend himself with the support of French Football Federation president Jean-Pierre Escalettes and a lawyer. Last Friday Materazzi gave evidence to Fifa's disciplinary committee regarding his conduct in the World Cup final

A joint statment by both players told that there was no racist or religious mentions in Materazzis comment.

Francesco Totti was banned for four matches for spitting in the face of Poulson after Poulson made similar gestures about Tottis family. Totti got a more severe punishment (I am not defending spitting as its vile) then Zidane who could have potentialy put Materazzi in hospital!!

Looks like Zidane kissed enough Fifa A** throughout his career.

There was an article about Lip Reading in the Washington Post this weekend where they talked about the Zidane issue. They said that the lip readers came up with different things due to the fact that lip reading isn't 100% accurate and that translating it from Italian is difficult as well.

The Lip Reader said that: "The professional lip reader gave the phonetic reading and then it was translated into Italian. Now the Italian word for terrorist - terrorista- looks the same as the Italian word for sister. That was the root of the confusion. When people ask what did Materazzi say, some said, ' You are the terrorist son of a wh*re.' But others thought he said something against Zidane's mother or sister. It is very difficult to read it 100 percent."

Lip reading sounds so cool ^_^

^^
Thanks for the new info, roppal222.
If the rumor is true, how many times has he gone out of retirement, then?:p

Then he might as well go back and play for France and take the EuroCup:lol:

Btw, I found the Nike add with Materazzi. Hilarious, yes. But how come he stands strong against a bowling ball, an American footbal player, and two soldiers with a ram, when in reality he fell and cried like a baby when Zizou headbutted him?;)

Also, Zidane's headbutt has won a 2006 Stupidity Award for The Dumbest Moment Of The Year:

^ That Materazzi video is comedy! and your so right...he didn't take the headbut like a man. Who's he trying to kid? What a loser. He should fall over and mock being injured. It's his speciality........It's what he brings to the game.

Dumbest moment by Zidane indeed...

I agree, the return from retirement rumours getting old. But these Arsenal ones been gaining some momenum. I doubt it tho. Ithink Zidane meant it when he said he doesn't want to return to the game.

^^ I guess we'll see what'll happen...

btw, I LOVE your signature. I was actually listening to the song, when I read it! I think your version is better

It will be exciting for him to return....I think I'd cry with excitement. but I don't think it'll happen. Wonder if he has anything else planned for his future?

lol - thanks, I do like the song, but I'm taking the p*** out of the song title. I've decided to bring something back every other week. :D

I'm going to admit, I dont know much about this guy other than he's this great French footballer and I'm in love with his name. I was intrigued to come her after I saw what happened what the World Cup. IT really sucks that someone would call him a bunch of names.

I'm still not over how dirty the Italians played. I'm not even a big sports fan, but that game left a horrible taste in my mouth. Once I saw an Italian kick one of France's players before falling to the ground holding his foot. Unbelievable.

It's interesting that Italians should be saying racist things when a great deal of their heritage comes from the Middle East and North Africa.

So true! I both loved France and Italy and I was watching that game the whole time. But Italy is officially over in my heart by the foul plays they demonstrated in that game. Despite everything, France team plays by far the fairest games I have seen. I totally saw how the referee totally ignored how many foul plays the Italy team put on France, instead he gave French player a yellow card for something not even worth it. That cup doesn't belong to Italy! :(

true..although the moment I saw it I wondered what on earth Materazzi might've said to him that infuriated Zizou to such a degree., for me he was always one of the few players that was invariably cool, calm and collected; he just emanates serenity. I would've never expected to see him react this way. Roy Keane, maybe, Diego Simeone, maybe..but not Zidane! I cannot imagine how dreadful it must've been to get sent off like that during your very last match:(

FIFA (the football federation) already inverstigated the allegations. It was determined that Materazzi did NOT make any racist comments to Zidane.
Both players were ordered to pay a fine, and the matter has already been settled.

This whole idea that Zidane is a saint or a victim is just ridiculous. This wasn't the first time that he lost his temper on the field and physically assaulted a player.

The Italian team didn't play "dirty" any more than the French team did. The French had their share of "actors" on their team. Italy played well enough to beat Germany, which at that point was the frontrunner to win the competition. So if Italy won the competition, it's because they played well.

though I don't think he's either a saint or a victim, I still wouldn't say it was characteristic behaviour for him

I AGREE
