roppal222 said:Zidane's never been open about religious stuff tho.... all we know is that he's from a Muslim family.
He may still respect parts of the Islamic faith but doesn't adhere to the faith in its entirety.. People always assume if you're from a Muslim family you must be a really devout Islamist. It's the same way many Christians are Christians by birth but aren't necessarily that religious.
I'm going off on a tangent here now.....![]()
InsaneMembrane said:Yeah I agree I just going off what i know.
The terrorist quote from Materazzi makes a bit more sense in context ..."my only terrorist is her" is what comes after her refering to his 10 month old daughter...

roppal222 said:I still think to try and convince people you don't know the meaning of Islamic terrorist taking into account the political climate, shows downright stupidity.
He knows what it means....he's putting on a front. And it's not doing him any favours.
He should just come clean about what was said. And bring it to an end. Pretty much the vast majority are now believeing he made racist comments to invoke such an alarming eaction in Zidane. The longer he denies and lies, the more he looks like the fool. I know he said it all started because he believes Zidane was 'super arogant' but that's only cos Matenazzi - from his own admission - kept tugging his shirt! He should've been yellow carded for that from the get-go.
I'm glad to see tho that in the grand scheme of things respect for Zidane remains high. No doubt people are greatly disappointed with him, but history will remember him well.
P.S Those pics of him with his family are just gorgeous!![]()
InsaneMembrane said:Yeah I'm just saying that he could have been kidding and the rest of the quote seems to add to the fact it might not have been said in a serious manner the not knowing what an islamic terrorist is part...
I haven't seen a player get carded for a shirt tug..it's just a foul b
Yeah I think history will definitely judge him well.. I mean look at Maradona did a lot of dumb stuff but still regarded as one of the greatest if not the greatest player in history

roppal222 said:I get what you mean but it's still suspicious. The political climate in Italy post 9/11 was very tense largely thanks to that twat Berlusconi's vitriol against Muslims...and I think in the context of things, Materazzi must've known what weight such a comment could've had. And even many Italian journalists said today that it's not past him to use a comment like that to provoke...
So yes, I'm sure he knows what it means...it's just his attempt to to kid about it![]()
Yes,but like you say, it's a foul and shouldn't be acceptable...this where I agree with many sports journos today, refs need to get more hardline on the pitch. If you dive, you should get a red card, if you verbally insut you get a yellow card, if you pull someone's shirt constantly you should get sent off. It'd be amazing how many of these players would suddenly be on their best behaviour. I know it may not seem feasible in practise to constantly keep on top of what every player is up to but I think they need to start cracking down on it somehow.
I just think right here right now Zidane is famous for this..and it will certainly be the enduring memory of World Cup 2006. But in terms of Zidane the man, the legend: just an unfortunate blip.
.Perhaps, then, you should take issue with them...InsaneMembrane said:Again this is from all over the net French and other people calling Italians "wops" and "dirty"

well saideightyeightkeys said:Perhaps, then, you should take issue with them...
That one Italian is a notoriously dirty football player doesn't have anything to do with Italians, or Italy in general, at all. The same goes for all cultures, religions, and ethnicities.
We think Zizou is cool. Period. Apparently, you don't share our opinion. That's cool, too. But I ask that you don't let the fact that some Zidane supporters have made an overly broad generalization interfere with our appreciation of him.
This isn't a fan thread is it ?...eightyeightkeys said:Perhaps, then, you should take issue with them...
