I´m going on a weekend trip to Zürich in Switzerland soon and wonder if anyone has any adresses on good shoppingstreets. Not only the main shoppingstreets bur also if anyone knows about any chic outletboutiques - Those often situated on smaller "impossible-to-find" streets if you´re a lost tourist... B)

last year I was for 4 days in Zürich with some friends. But this city was so expensive to me ....the main street was full of designer shops and some other okay stores, it was even hard to find a supermarket for me . I haven't seen any outlet stores or so....

Well, surfing on the web made me find quite a lot of information... Although the main impression is the one that your descibe - Switzerland is very, very expensive! Perhaps I just settle for some windowshopping to make it back home! :D

well have you ever been in London ? London is very expensive imo but Zürich is so much more expensive ! Zürich is a beautiful city, I love the lake middle in the city and the garden, great clubs to go out but still expensive

Zürich isn't that expensive compared to cities like Copenhagen, Rome, Paris, Stockholm, London, Berlin and so on. The prices are pretty much the same all over.

The main shopping street is Bahnhofstrasse (and the area around it). This is were all of the more expensive shops are situated, but also where you can find Benetton, H&M. You can easily spend half a day here.

A must-see is definitely "Dörfli" -the older part of Zürich. Niederdorfstrasse, Oberdorfstrasse. Basically the whole area from Bellevue to Bahnhofbrücke is a walk worth, not only for the shopping, but it's also beautiful. From Bellevue you can also go right, the area around Stadelhofen is also lovely. Theaterplatz is a great place to eat icecream in the summertime!

Zurich is definitely not more expensive than London or the skandinavian countries!

Bahnhofstrasse: From the main station till Paradeplatz you'll finde the usual stores such as H&M, Zara, Mango...Visit Globus department store there and BIG. If you like high-end but not the usual stuff, visit Eclectic Boutique (Werdmühleplatz-off Bahnhofstrasse).
From Paradeplatz till the lake there are all the designers, Prada, Chanel, LV, Bottega Veneta, Dior, Gucci,...Tiffany's. Grieder at Paradeplatz is a department store that features designers (also Marc by Marc Jacobs...)

Niederdorf/Dörfli: More alternative fashion, many skater stores there, but a little off the main street there are some gorgeous boutiques, such as Vestibule (www.vestibule.ch). They have Marc by Marc Jacobs, 3.1. Phillip Lim, Cacharel, Chloé, Vanessa Bruno...small selection of shoes and bags, as well and some nice jewelry.
On the main street almost at the Grossmünster visit Antares for less expensive but beautiful jewelry and deco articles

Langstrassenquartier (Kreis 4/5): Many streetstyle stores such as Dings (Zollstrasse, featuring Henrik Vibskov, Ivana Helsinki, WESC, Sessun...) and lots of swiss designers (Beige, Amok, Making Things, Chic Happens,...they all have homepages, just google them). Visit Ostblock (Konradstrasse)-eastern european designers and clothes from the great Aleksandra Wisniewska. Visit LuxPlus for vintage and Alex&Chloe necklaces...

For cheaper stuff...there is a vintage store on Ankerstrasse near the Bezirksgebäude stop, shoes seem to be the best thing. I have found practically new pumps from Bally for 50 CHF, a leather Celine belt for 60 CHF, and jeans from Helmut Lang for 70 CHF. I also saw a Burberry trench although it was a huge size :(

Rabatt (Fidelio's cheaper store) on Badenerstrasse has discounted designer clothing: jeans from Acne, Hussein Chalayan, Filippa K, Cheap Monday; suits from Costume National and Viktor & Rolf; dresses from Etoile Isabel Marant and Diane von Furstenberg...etc.

For more expensive things, Boutique Roma on Lintheschergasse (parallel to Banhofstrasse) has Raf Simons, CDG, Ann Demeulemeester, Margiela, Dries, Junya Watanabe, really beautiful things and the staff is very friendly even when you just come to look and not buy anything B)

Apartment on Löwenstrasse has A.P.C., Anne Valerie Hash (so beautiful!!), I can't remember all the designers but the selection is amazing and the guy there is extremely nice and will give you honest opinions.

FIRMA on Badenerstrasse is a small label from Berlin which makes very simple but wonderfully made clothing, the owner is always there and very attentive. I got an amazing dress for 300 CHF which has a concealed elastic band on the inside to give it a slight asymmetrical drape; I think most of the items have this kind of special, subtle detail.

Zurich shopping is great and the prices are not that bad when you convert to euros or dollars.

Can someone recommend some nice boutiques in Zurich that carry brands similar to Barney's NY?
Looking for stores that carry various high end designers instead of the boutiques, any comments would be really appreciated.

Thanks much!

Serenade_ingenue, if I remember correctly you can go to Trois Pommes which has three separate boutiques in the old part of the city, brands like Lanvin, Balenciaga, etc.

Of course you can also go to Globus or Jelmoli for a more department-store arrangement.
