Watching movies I sometimes find myself zoning in on the lipstick, blush, nailpolish whatnot of a character.. and I imagine I'm not the only one..

I thought I'd make this thread where we can share movie make-up info.

Watching The Devil wears Prada I became mesmerized by the blushy pink lips of Anne Hathaway.. and they kept distracting me through a good part of the movie..

So I did a bit of digging and found out the following..

Do you want the look of the devil? Well not really the devil himself with the horns and the trident. I mean the look of Anne Hathaway's character Andy in the movie 'The Devil wears Prada'. According to shoppingblog.com, Andy was molded "from a mousy new employee at a fashion magazine into a chic New Yorker worthy of attending a Paris couture fashion show." Simply by wearing red lipstick! It seems so simple, how does she get those smoldering sexy lips so red? Anne had some help from make up artist Nicki Ledermann; she is the genius behind her look in the film.
Nicki used Dior Addict Lipstick in Positive Red 857 on Anne's lips, which retails for $23.50. The devil wears a competitor's brand? For a look that was not overwhelming, Ledermann applied Benefit Benetint lip tint ($28) on Anne's lips. She then dotted the Positive Red Dior Addict Lipstick only in the center of her lips, and then blended the two with her fingers. So ladies if you want the look of the devil this summer, head to the nearest Sephora counter and pick up your lipstick and tint combo today!
Surprised that it was basically just Benetint

Hanne, It's funny that you mention that because I was totally mesmerized by Emily Blunt's (Emily's) green eyshadow in the film... in fact, I felt myself totally loving all of her makeup through the entire film.

Incredible that they got that much pigment out of the Benetint. I've tried a lil smear of it on the back of my hand and it didn't seem that opaque.

I was definitely obsessed with all the makeup in TDWP and am always checking out the makeup in all movies I watch. :D

Here is how to get Rachel McAdams's makeup look in The Family Stone.

Look-at-Me Lips: Rachel McAdamsRachel McAdams is one of Hollywood's newest stars -- and prettiest faces. Snag her lip look from the holiday hit The Family Stone.

She made us laugh in Mean Girls and cry in The Notebook, but in The Family Stone (which also stars Sarah Jessica Parker and Diane Keaton), Rachel McAdams makes us both laugh and cry, not to mention want to run right out and try her perfect-for-the-holidays red-lipped look. The 29-year-old Canadian actress plays the clan's youngest bohemian beauty with an enchanting smile that belies her feisty and forthright nature. McAdams' smart portrayal and natural look, punctuated with a Christmassy crimson pout, nearly steals the film.
So get her lovely red lips in four simple steps, and prepare to steal every scene of your own this holiday season!
Step 1: Prep your lips with a lip balm, blotting off the excess with a tissue. This will ensure that your lipstick goes on smoothly.
Step 2: Outline your lips with a creamy red lip liner (try Jane ColorSticks Lip Color & Liner in Precious, $3.99) and use a brush or your finger to blend the color over your entire mouth, which will supply even more staying power.
Step 3: Apply a red lipstick with a satiny finish that isn't too matte (try Kevyn Aucoin Beauty The Expert Lip Tint in Poppia, $22).
Step 4: Dab a little red lip gloss (try Almay Whipped Gloss in Merry Cherry, $6.95) onto the center of your lips. Smokin'!

I love this thread! Does anyone know what colour that Faye Dunaway has in the first scene in Bonnie & Clyde is called. And a lipstick that might be similar to that.

Red lips always get my attention.

I like the make up especially in older films.

I looovvee red lipstick, I absolutely adore it.

Unfortunately, I tried it out the other day and people told me that I looked like a child who had been playing with her mother's make-up.

I really wish I could wear red lipstick

Great thread^_^ I also like looking at make-up during films and things especially in the film "Memoirs of a Geisha" the make-up was so beautiful.

neat thread. i wish we knew more of what makeup colors were used in particular movies...

i remember back in 1996 when everyone was clamoring for kate winslet's makeup in "titanic" and max factor worked with the makeup artist (i think it was tina earnshaw) to create a "titanic" line.

i like the monthly feature in nylon magazine about how to mimic makeup from particular movies...

I can't help but wonder if half the time we're being tricked by the lighting..and what we think is great make-up is in reality just great lighting :(

Well, the movie make up would probably look horrendous in real life...just because of the reason's Hanne said. The make up in films is very heavy.

Oh, honey, remember what they say... there's a red for everyone...

Though... I'm afraid to try it...

Does anyone know what kind of makeup the girls wore on Sex and the City. I would love to know what brands and shades they used.

First of all great thread Hanne, karma!:flower: and second of all, yes, we are being tricked, not just in movies, but in ads (for make up) or photoshoots, even hair colours. It's a lot of things, they are professionally applied and then the right angle and then the right lighting, blah, blah, blah....

I just thought of the blue eyeliner look on Sienna Miller that I loved so much in Alfi... she looked gorgeous... that with her blonde hair...

Me too! :woot:
...she has such great makeup trough the whole movie!

As for Anne Hathaway, she has beautiful lips, but don´t be tricked by the Benetint thing, if you use that recommended red lipstick alone, you get the same red lips with or without the Benetint .:innocent:

I'd love to know which eyeshadow is Anne Hathaway wearing in TDWP. It's kind of copper-orange. It looks like amber lights from MAC. But I'm not sure.

Sorry I have no pics :(
