1895-1972 Cristobal Balenciaga

I've just read a book about Balenciaga the other day. The pictures left me speechless... everything just seemed to fit the figure of a woman so perfectly.

Cristobal Balenciaga was, is and always will be the best designer.
And this is perfect, the most beautiful creation!!!! (sorry for the re-post but i couldn't help myself)

Does anybody know what is meant by the double-dress construction that is being refered as a Balenciaga trademark?

He often would construct an "inside" dress, sort of like a really substantial lining. It acted like an understructure to allow for the clothes to move better on you, as well as support the complex engineering and construction required of his designs. Often the inner dress would require it's own zippers and closures, it really is a "double-dress" rather than a lining.

If I get a hold of a digital camera I can take photos for you of some Balenciaga dresses on the inside.

I am very excited. They are bringing some of Balenciaga's couture pieces to the Dallas Meadows Museum at SMU/Southern Methodist University......in Texas. It will be REALLY fun to see!
