i like it, too. it's so.. unexpected.
a friend of mine just told me, that i missed a screening of "nosferatu" with live music.. she let me know that it was great. fine.
so i have to use this thread as a reminder again. does someone of you know "la fille de l'eau" by jean renoir? it's one of his early films, from 1924.. there will be a screening of it next week. it starred his wife catherine hessling.
Actress/artist's model Catherine Hessling was the last model of painter Auguste Renoir and the wife of his son, distinguished filmmaker Jean Renoir. Soon after her marriage to the latter in 1920, Hessling, born Andrée Madeleine Heuchling in Alsace, began starring in Renoir's first films. She sometimes appeared in the films of other directors as well. Though the stunningly beautiful Hessling was a noted performer, her film career abruptly ended after her marriage to Renoir broke up in the early 1930s. [new york times]
i couldn't find any good pictures of her, only some tiny film stills. here is the only one of decent size i could find. i think it shows her as nana in one of renoirs later films..
[from www.arte.de, sorry for hotlinking, but for some reasons i've never been able to attach pictures from this site. btw it also offers some short clips of her performance in nana. here: http://www.arte-tv.com/fr/Nana_20de_20Jean_20Renoir/676968.html]
