1940's Actresses

I have noticed that we have alot of 40's starlets and they are all scattered.
Might be nice to have them all contained in their own thread:flower: so I am moving all the threads which have 5 or less posts and have been around for a while...this way, it will be easier to navigate through and see all your favorites and add to it hopefully.

joan bennett,
who started her career in the thirties as a sweet blonde in the shadow of her famous sister constance.at the end of the 30´s she started to dye her hair brown and went on to become one of the great film noir heroines of the 40´s (scarlet street, the woman in the window etc.)sources :moderntimes.com,doctormacro.com,worth1000.com.

barbara stanwyck,
another film noir femme fatale.she was deliciously malicious in "double indemnity" and i also loved her as the (not very likeable) victim in "sorry wrong number".

Virginia Gilmore

I just came across this picture of an actress called Virginia Gilmore in the September 1941 issue of Argentinian magazine "Maribel":

virginiagilmore.jpg

I'm intrigued because I'd never heard of her before, and she's quite pretty. All I found out is that she was married to Yul Brynner and starred in movies like "Manhattan Heartbeat", "Close-up", "That Other Woman", "The Loves of Edgar Allan Poe" and "The Pride of the Yankees".
Has anyone ever seen a movie of hers?

source: scanned by me, no photographer credited, just 20th Century Fox.

I have never heard of any of those movies before.
She's cute though.

ednafrau,i´ve never heard of virginia gilmore before or seen any of her movies .but thanks for posting her picture :flower:!

another film noir "dame":lizabeth scott.i´ve only seen two of her films :"the strange love of martha ivers" and "dead reckoning".

her "wise-beyond-her-years" and "seen-it-all"- look reminded me of lauren bacall.she was great together with bogie in "dead reckoning" but of course bogie and bacall are a class of their own.

I really  Old Hollywood, on the surface people everyone looked marvelous. Even if you weren't a natural beauty, the hairdressers and makeup artist, stylist could make magic.
