I think it's a lot more than that!;)

I'm working on the s/s collection 2006 and its filled with pastels like theese ones, but mixed with bright red, strong lime green and bright yellow.

Black and "old" pink, still...

A lot of allover prints in bright colors..

Well, it's so abstract...in the end all colors show up, maybe just in a pattern..

You are right^_^ , there are about another 12 secondary colours, and 3 of they are pinks, which means maybe pinks still stay "trendy" but it is not the "major" colour. (3 pinks, 4 wood and earthy tones, 1 red and 2 baby blue in light and slightly darker shade)

the colour i posted is not 100% accurate, because i have difficulty to find colour-chips online, and scan they is totally pointless, but i hope people can get a sense of which colour i am talking about.

Where did you get this info? (*curious)

Part of design process, my teacher is the member of trend/colour association (recording to him), these is the essental colours he analysised from the resource.

There are tons more colors! Today I went to a Spring/Summer 2006 Forecast session...

There are tons of creams, and dark dark browns, dark gray/greens, ladylike pinks, fuschias, juicy oranges... orange is going to be the hot color of the summer.

thx cypresses...
an to everyone else for their input...

unfortunately i don't get a very clear picture of an trend from this...hmmm...

OMG, please forgive me, these is not the only colour, there are a lot more. But since the colour are select based on ideologyand and psychoanalytic, i guess it will be easier to put in this way:

  • Colours are largely impacted by GLOBALIZATION,
  • Colours that are influenced by EXOTIC CULTURE, for example- velvet, gems, jewel tones……….ext.
  • Colours with UNVERSAL APPEAL, for example, orange, light navy, light blue-green (peacock green), creamy skin tones ext.
  • Colours that symbolize the Mother Earth, for example- very green, different shade of green, blues, beige, sandy tones.
  • Colours of INDUSTRIALIZED CITY, for example- Black and grey scale.
  • Colours that are associated with relaxation for MODERN LIVING.
  • Colours remind us PASSION ABOUT LIFE, for example- Red, pinks, bright orange.

that just sounds like every colour to me...i still don't get it...
oh well...

It's quite an abstract topic... Different designers uses different colors cos their targets are different. (Old people & young people doesnt normally wear the same colour) Different chemistry-companies sell different colours, thats the point I guess, its not so much about the taste of the people, but the commercial business of the industry that actually produces color.. Well, maybe I'm not so clear, it's 8 oclock in the morning..

ss06 colours are very close to what cypress posted, but see each trend office has a different proposition and a different attitude to what is a trend and what is not.

we see the continuation of washed out brights, the grey-ish tint effect .. then we have bold 'primal' colours and some real brights for intense effects, which are used mainly as 'accent'.

major ss06 colour is BLUE in all its shades, YELLOW in warm sunny shade, classic RED and the absolute continuation of a grass like GREEN.

i'm working a lot with colours (already in fw06.07 by now) and i choose different tones for each 'mood' story of our collections.
something that may be fit for an 'african' theme will be wrong for a 'folk' theme , something suitable for a 'nostalgic' story wont do for our 'paradise beach' section.

cypresses latest colour 'philosophy' breakdown is very well put, colour trends reflet (and are based) on managing socio-economic moods, making things attractive starts from philosophical and not from esthetical approach.

i understand that for some this may feel abstract.. it feels abstract even for industrialists, but then.. thats what fashion consultants -like myself- are for.. unlocking the mysteries of product placement :magic:

wow, this is really interesting! although im with softgrey in that i really dont have a clear idea of what colors will be hot . but what i *do* realize is that colors i wore last year... even last season are totally different from what im wearing now/will wear in spring. like i went on a dirty brassy-color binge in my jewely last year, and this year i can only think of dirty copper ;)

oh well...

That's exactly what I feel...I've seen every colour that exists here in this topic so I don't get it either..

i don't know...i just wear what looks good on me...every year...because i don't change my hair or skin colour...so the colours that work for me don't change...
and that's how i advise people to build their wardrobes...choose the colours that are right for you personally...not according to some trend..

i guess it's the more commercial/mass market brands that use the trend foprecasting the most?...is that true?...i'm just thinking that because none of the designers i seem to be drawn to seem to follow any sort of trends...they seem to march to their own beat...and none of the smaller disigners that i've worked with used that type of service...(maybe they couldn't afford it ..or maybe they chose not to...i think a bit of both really...)...

my favourite colours are the ones that look good on everyone...

lena, cypresses, anyone...what about purple...any purple...no?...or burgundy?...
does that fall under jewel tones?...

Purple is in there too. Jewel tones, Rich tones.. very Fall. Blackberry and intense purples... along with the violets which are more on the blue side.. inky blue cast lilacs... to balance all the warm colors.

I probably sound like Rain man.. I'm just typing my notes from yesterday. :flower:

From the Spring/Summer 06 meeting yesterday.. this is what they informed us:

Whites are light and luminous... the colors are not true colors, more hybrid colors.. "ish" colors.. blue-ish green.. reddish orange.

White:

Clean whites are paired with ivory and cream.
Pearlized - a hint of shine
White + Gold/Silver = hot combo as usual

Sepia:
Think Calvin Klein Colors and tints. Basics, earthy and natural

Yellow:
Oil and Honey, golden and buttery shades. Metallics such as bronze and gold

Orange:
A KEY BRIGHT... fruit/orange, coral; red; juicy ginger orange

Radish Red:
Asian/African influence, ethnic red or scarlet
Think of reds being glossy, enamel, candy apple red

Browns:
VERY dark, ethnic, roasted coffee, bitter chocolate
Looks GREAT next to the juicy colors (orange, for ex.)

Pink: (Coral and Fuschia)
Coral: orangey peachy pink
Fuschia: magenta, indian pink, think the color on an Indian sari, cerise

Purple:
Rich(very Fall), Blackberry > intense purples
Violets(blue) shadow colors, inky blue cast (to balance the warmer colors)

Blue: (Coastal and Tropical)
Coastal: blueberry (gray tint).. think more beachy and oceany
Tropical: aqua, turq., teal.. think more rain foresty

Green: (Blue-green and Yellow-cast green)
Blue green: refreshing and cool, like aloe, cucumber, and emerald
Yellow-Cast: Kiwi colors, peridot, tripical greens

Dark Shadows:
Aged colors... grayed out greens, very dark olives, charcoal, and black of course

Black and White:
It's all about contrast, Black + White, Bitter chocolate + off white

As for Prints and Patterns.. this is what I wrote down from the speaker:

there are 6 categories.

Palace: Ornate Prints(copper/ivory), islamic brocades, regal

Tea Party: Think of an English garden, very "wallpaper print", new romance, watercolors, toile and lace will be dominant

Garden: farmer's market, plaid table clothes, greens, gingham very popular, bright almost primary colors and whites

Tropic: batik, recolored animal prints, animal "floral"

Soul: Geometric African fabrics, dashiki(sp?) prints, avacado/mustar color combos, Prada did this very well on the runway

Acid: 60's intense colors, dip dyes, tie dyes

And as for Fabric:

Linen, hemp, imperfect fabrics, cotton, silk (more hard or every day fabrics) paired with chiffon and organdy (soft fabrics)

Ethnic fabrics, african

Lace/Eyelet transparent, organdy, pastel plaids

Very Subtle metallic in some fabrics

Stripes... gingham

And Embellishment, embroidery, beaading, texture, couture fabrics being used for sportwear.

Overall.. I think the meeting was interesting.. but a lot of the stuff contradicted itself.

Like the Fabrics guy said that it's all about simplicity!.. then he proceeded to say that embellishment is hot!

So I hope you found with I got from the session interesting.. It's all very baffling.

After 6 hours of lecture it does makes sense to me, the power of hot media is unbelievable, especially there will be exam after, and it makes you think everything he said is pulling out of bible. (Maybe I should write “F*&^K, why did you waste my 6 hours? You could just say rainbow).

But as I said, some people believe and some don’t.

yeah...i've never really trusted the forecasting agencies...
what you said has always seemed true to me luna...

it seems like they talk out of both sides of their mouths and cover a very broad spectrum that can be interpreted on so many ways that i don't really find it helpful or directional most of the time...i gues that's why i stopped following what they say...
anyway...i'm not a designer, so it really doesn't apply to me...i go mainly on instinct...

maybe it would help if i saw fabric samples...i think that the fabrics shows are
AMAZING...
thanks for the report luna...glad to know that there will hopefully be some purples for me ...yay!!...
