2011 MTV Movie Awards

Penny Lane summed things up, but it's not like Reese was that brief to the point of sounding like a conceited b*tch . She talked about her career (since that's what the award was about!), the luck she's had to be able to work with some people, and at the end of her speech, directed at young girls, she said it was fun to be bad but also mentioned there are alternatives to make it in Hollywood, that it's possible to do it without a reality show, or sex tapes or nude pictures of yourself (the sequence she used was less vile than I might be making it sound!) and she also said (not sarcastically) that if you venture on that, you could hide your face or be safe about it. I don't think she was running over poor Blake, I think she just tried to be responsible about her position as a woman that's succeeded in Hollywood as an serious actor without sacrificing her integrity and using an event with so many young girls watching as a platform to let them know there are other (more positive) ways to succeed in the entertainment industry.

Unrelated: that second where Kristen pushes Rob away and he tells her that he's just taking her backstage was a little awkward. Girl's got issues. :ninja:

that sounds like something you'd say when ur talking about blake and kim k. I'm sure blake died a little inside. Ahaha

Wow what a way to knock a sister when she's down. I'm quite disappointed.

I am too. For me what Lively did was despicable but it doesn't mean that Witherspoon had any right to say this. I am sorry but the girl is already down as it is and even if her team did that, she still have parents, brother, cousin whatever who must not have it easy those days.

Aqua: imo Kristen´s so embarrased that Twilight wins everything cause fans vote non stop, the same with Rob.
This is so getting old. They've been winning for 3 years and the more time goes the more awkward they become. Plus they both acted even weirder than usual  I saw people saying that they kiss backstage.. Why would they do that? Aren't they very private and all? (backstage is not the best place to kiss if you don't want to be spotted)

As for style Lively looked awesome. Further proof that she looks better in anything which isn't Chanel. But I loved, loved, loved Watson't after party dress.

Can't believe he won over Jesse Eisenberg :innocent:

Come on, it's MTV Movie Awards where Eclipse wins over both The Social Network and Inception. Thank God they didn't nominated The King's Speech. :innocent:

I like Harry Potter and I like Tom Felton but I don't think he deserved any prize for that performance. He was barely in a few scenes.

It's like someone felt guilty towards Harry Potter team and thought: "There is no Twilight nominee, so we should present it to Tom".

It wasn't until Twilight started winning everything last night that I realised I have truly out grown the MTV awards. I've never read the books, never seen the films I just have no time for it t all. But then I'm not a 15 year old girl who worships Kristen Stewart and fancies Robert Pattinson so I guess it's not aimed at me! I also think Reese Witherspoon made some valid points in her speech. I love the fact she also corrected Rob Pattinson's lame joke.
On the other hand, Emma Stone looked lovely, I liked Emma Watson's dress and it was nice to see Blake wearing something that covered her up!

I can't wait until the days when the Twilight films are finally over and can no longer sweep the awards away from everyone.

Me too, but bad news is that when the Twilight films are finally over, the Harry Potter films will be over too.

It´s over... pretty boring show, wasn´t it?

Pretty predictable, I'd say.

Someone needs to tell this girl that THE WHOLE WORLD knows she dates Robert, it's not a secret. She needs to deal with it, move on and enjoy her life.

Amen. And the whole world doesn't care.

Emma Watson recognized as Zac? Ok, that's pretty big compliment for her

No, it's Zac who was recognized as Emma. And that's not a big compliment for him.

They won every MTV award since 2009. How come it´s still a surprise?
I´m surprised that HP fans didn´t vote as much...
this.
i expected for them (tho i count myself as a HP fan, i don't vote in these kind of stuff) to at least go overboard voting considering it's all coming to an end and how it would be nice for the whole thing to be celebrated during the show cus it def meant a lot to teens all around the world for more than 10 years now. they don't care enough? okay, then why all the anger at twilight thing if it's not important? it's a teen's thing and it made an impact on lots of peeps all around the world enough to make them vote. it is a phenomenon (low quality one, but still).

to tell you the truth i'm actually surprised they won everything again, cus the hype is going down, down, down for awhile now.:innocent:

also, may i also say something i've noticed..emma w. couldn't stop rolling her eyes throughout the night, mostly at twi stuff, then at emma stone..i mean, i get it, but it's MTVs not Oscars... i expected from her lot more poise tbh, oh well, i get it, but still.. cus she was mostly enjoying herself thoughout the rest of the show big time (dancing and stuff).

I think they voted, I am pretty sure they did but seriously who can beat Twilight people?! I think people should just stop bothering, wait and move on. Also I guess HP fans grew up, I don't see them voting massively like some Twilight folks does, I am pretty sure most don't consume HP the way some fans consume Twilight. Plus HP is british, they won the national award stuff big time didn't they?I am even surprised that HP won over Inception for I don't remember what and HP won over Waltz for best villain. Proof that they voted  As for her rolling her eyes, I think it was more like "WTH I don't get it" at some jokes I didn't get either  or speeches which were :ninja: Well I guess she was the Clooney/HBC/Jolie of the night ie the "i am not impressed". Honestly, some speeches were hot mess, really. That little kid did better than some grown up.
Oh and I can't believe that Bieber won. Talk about dedicated fans !!

Did Reese really say that you can be nice and successful in Hollywood? Kevin Smith and Vince Vaughn beg to differ. :innocent:

I can smell like in the next MTV awards there is gonna be Twilight VS Hunger Games battle :innocent:

I think more like the last Twilight movie VS the last Harry Potter movie...
But stop, I'm not right at all. It won't be a battle: Twilight will take it all.

I quite liked Reese's speech- nice to see someone say that you can be a good girl in Hollywood and be successful. Hopefully some of the people in the audience were listening to that. And I think the only good things to have come from the Twilight films are Taylor Lautner's ab's and the realization that Harry Potter fans are above voting an absurd amount of times (unlike twihards) for petty awards.

I think fan vote probably counts for 1/3 of the final outcome when it comes to most award shows. Another 1/3 is probably producers and the other publicists; so, it really doesn't matter in the end. Even something as prestigious as the Oscars is all about campaigning and politics. Like Ron Swanson said, "Awards are stupid... but they'd be less stupid if the right person won."

My favorites of the night were Kristen Stewart, Elle Fanning, Leighton Meester, and Emma Stone. I think overall everyone looked really nice.

I really really really hope that next year (thought the MTV MAs don't really matter, other awards shows do) HP win a lot of awards, after the last film is out (noooo :( ). They have been doing this since 2001, since they were kids, and it's been a huge thing in their lives - they grew up with it! They deserve so much recognition and praise, and if Twilight win all the awards next year, it just won't be fair! Twilight is awful, badly written with boring movies. Harry Potter is genius and entertaining. And British (sorry :P )

Favourites: Elle Fanning, Kristen Stewart, Mila Kunis.

I have to say most of the outfits were awful. I don't think the pieces in Emma S's outfit went together at all, though I think she's awesome, and Emma W's outfit was so boring and unflattering... I thought Emma Roberts was supposed to be there?

@dajrekshn: I've been a Potter fan for 12 years, so I always vote when it's nominated for something. But I don't vote non-stop 24/7 like twilight fans do.
I don't have the time nor the interest to be honest. Plus, when I do vote, I also vote for other films that I loved not just Potter.

And I saw Emma shake her head once (at Kstew's failed joke, because she was understandably confused), all the other times she was applauding and smiling along with everyone else.
And LaineyGossip is just seeing things that she wants to see...Emma didn't roll her eyes at Emma Stone. She was looking at the overhead screen.

oh no no, don't get me wrong, the only thing regarding this is my surprise at the lack of "more enthusiasm" considering its coming to an end. i really thought fans would hit it full speed, but as you said, nor time nor interest got in the way (in my case, HP is a separate world in my head for almost 14 years which i don't connect to these sort of awards and stuff, so i see it almost like an unnatural thing when it's mentioned in this pop-culture way ). what i wanted to say is, if fans are clearly aware of the fact they didn't click (vote) as much as they were supposed to knowing how "enthusiastic" the whole twi-base is, than why all the eye rolling at the fact twilight got most of the awards and not HP? you nor i didn't hit/vote as much and this is what happens and imo it leaves no space for bigger critism (apart from the fact what twilight and it's content are representing and why it's so appealing, but that would lead in a debate about current social -women position particulary- climate and that's a huge thing to debate and is worthy of debating, but obv not here).

i watched the show (and i'm not getting the Laineygossip reference? when it comes to my comment and what does it have to do with it, tbh ) and saw Emma on few occasions having mind boggled face which i saw as unpoised unlike you (as for Stewart reaction - i wasn't implying about the failed joke, but the face she had when Stewart mentioned her along the other nominees among one of the stuff that tickled her reaction). also, i did mention seeing Emma dancing and enjoying herself during the rest of the awards and those weird moments just stuck with me cus i didn't expect them from Emma, nothing more. :flower:

I agree so much. I don't even watch MTV anymore because their shows are just terrible, but your comment makes so much sense. I just can't tell if I'm getting too old or MTV is just catering to a younger, even more juvenile demographic.

I don’t give a **** if you’re a Twilight fan. If that’s what floats your boat then by all means, be a Twilight fan. People have differing opinions and the world would be boring if we all had the same opinion. However, the fact that this movie swept the awards is ****ing BULL****. The acting is crap. The plot is crap. And these were against GREAT. MOVIES. Movies like Inception, Harry Potter, The Black Swan, the Social Network. All movies with TREMENDOUS acting and a solid ****ing plot. Movies that make you think, movies that blow your mind, movies that tell you you can achieve whatever you want as long as you put your mind to it. Movies that break your heart. Movies that don’t always have the happy ending. THOSE movies should be the ones to sweep. Not ones like ****ing Twilight where little girls are taught that you are nothing without a man. **** that noise

^again, it´s MTV. I´ve been watching the awards since the 90s, the popular movies win every time... not the quality ones, not the ones that win important awards.
This time is Twilight, in two years there´s gonna be another franchise everyone´s sick of that will sweep the awards... nothing new under the sun.
