2012 : is the world ending? and what happens after that?

I don't believe the world is ending in 2012, but I would believe it could be changing dramatically. Maybe amazing things will come out of it though? eventually?.. I just wish people wouldn't have to get hurt in the process.... like with all these floods, earthquakes going on.. :( it does kind of make you wonder why.
It's not that I'm terribly afraid of dying as such, but natural disasters do scare me more because they're so unpredictable and you may not necessarily die in the process, just your entire life is turned upside down and then you actually have to deal with it.. and the chaos and confusion.

That being said, I know there's no point in being afraid of things that aren't in your control. It's a waste of time, ultimately we just live our lives each day as it comes.. and hope for the best. :Ss

I don't think it's mentioned in the list above, but about the dead birds in Romania, an autopsy concluded they died of alcohol poisoning.

“Tests on five birds showed gizzards full of grape marc which caused their death,” Romeu Lazar, head of the city’s veterinary authority told Reuters, referring to a pulpy residue which is a by-product of winemaking."

Well, I don't believe it's gonna end in 2012. But, if it ends, it's better. ^_^

In any case, it's likely that because we've advanced so far as a race anything that would have caused mass extinction in the pass - extreme weather like flooding, snowstorms etc - may be things that we will be able to survive. Of course some things can't be predicted, or survived and most likely it will either be something like an asteroid that we either don't see coming, or is too big for us to destroy OR a man-made biological end-of-days aka zombie apocalypse.

Anyway, there is no point in worrying about it. Do what you can to live a full and happy life and do your best to maintain this beautiful planet in the hope that future generations won't hate us too much.

Read this on Facebook and it made me laugh.
If the world doesn't end on December 21, 2012, I have a feeling there will be a huge baby boom in August 2013.
:D

Scientists warn California could be struck by winter ‘superstorm’

A group of more than 100 scientists and experts say in a new report that California faces the risk of a massive "superstorm" that could flood a quarter of the state's homes and cause $300 billion to $400 billion in damage. Researchers point out that the potential scale of destruction in this storm scenario is four or five times the amount of damage that could be wrought by a major earthquake.

It sounds like the plot of an apocalyptic action movie, but scientists with the U.S. Geological Survey warned federal and state emergency officials that California's geological history shows such "superstorms" have happened in the past, and should be added to the long list of natural disasters to worry about in the Golden State.

The threat of a cataclysmic California storm has been dormant for the past 150 years. Geological Survey director Marcia K. McNutt told the New York Times that a 300-mile stretch of the Central Valley was inundated from 1861-62. The floods were so bad that the state capital had to be moved to San Francisco, and Governor Leland Stanford had to take a rowboat to his own inauguration, the report notes.

Federal and state emergency management officials convened a conference about emergency for possible superstorms last week. You can read the whole report here.

well we have been having VERY strange weather here...one week it snowed where it never snows....and the next it's 85 degrees..

someone told me once more than war, famine, disease etc....our climate was going to kill us.

I wish we would take care of our planet like we do our homes, rooms, etc. -_- We maintain our homes. Our planet is like the home to our homes, and we should take care of it just as much. For what it does for us, we hardly thank it.

^ I agree. It seems many people don't even think thanks would be appropriate. Many seem to think of Mother Earth as ... how to say this politely? ... a concubine.

Whether it comes or not, there's nothing we can do about it. You can die tomorrow for heaven sake, which is out of control too. Just live your life the best you can and follow whatever belief system you follow. That way if it does come, you lived your last days well.

^ Not good for those of us who are going through a hard time... :(

Everyone goes through something that's really sh*tty once in a while. Even the other day, I missed my graduate school interview. Oh man, I wanted to punch holes in the wall and in myself for missing it.

But life goes on. The sun still comes up the next morning. We move on. Nothing lasts forever.

Major increase in violent protests around the world because of the economy...
