Jackson Arrives in Japan for Fan Events
Mar 4, 7:33 AM EST

The Associated Press
TOKYO -- Smiling and waving to screaming fans, Michael Jackson arrived in Japan on Sunday for his second visit in recent years to host an exclusive party where admirers pay $3,500 to spend 30 seconds with the pop icon.
A relaxed-looking Jackson in trademark sun glasses and black leather jacket was ushered by guards past hundreds of screaming Japanese fans at Narita Airport on Sunday afternoon, some carrying signs that read "We love Michael" and "Welcome to Japan."
At the VIP party, guests will get to mingle with Jackson, spending 30 seconds to one minute each of exclusive face time with him, according to organizers. It was unclear whether the star will perform any songs.
While in Tokyo, the star will also host a fan art contest for those who cannot afford VIP tickets, organizer Broderick Morris said in an e-mail.
"Over the years, as Michael Jackson has performed in cities around the world, he has been pleased, honored, and impressed by the large amount of fan art of him," said Morris. "He would like to meet fan artists, and more fully appreciate and enjoy their creative expressions."
Three winning artists chosen by Jackson will have brunch with the star and their picture taken together.
Jackson, one of the best-selling artists of all time, has lived abroad since his acquittal, forsaking his Neverland Ranch in California for residences in Bahrain, France, and a castle in Ireland.
Jackson's VIP meet-and-greet party was scheduled for Thursday, with the fan art contest on Friday. It was not clear when Jackson would leave Japan.
Jackson, 48, is not obligated to perform at either event, and promoters refused to comment on how much he would be paid.

 Seriously, this makes my stomach turn around!

How long could a family in the third world live off 3500$? 10 month???

And now consider that every person in that room paid that!

I`m not saying people wouldn`t be free to spend their money on insane obscenities like that but Mr. Jackson "the good saint" (self-declared) could maybe donate 1000$ from each person to a good cause - like the prevention of child-abuse!

If I spent 5 seconds in the room with him I'd have nightmares.

I tell you that man has some of the scariest and most delusional fans in the world. It's obvious Michael is broke and he figures he can milk some of his hardcore fans for some $$ to pay off some bills. Seriously does anyone think he is ever going to be a big earner ever again and make a decent record? He is a freakshow.

Can I slap him around for 30 seconds? With his own glove?

That's not cheap at all but for the pirce you get to meet with MJ who is probably one of the top three biggest artists ever.

Ironically, he's donated far more than that before.

I don't think we have any solid proof that he's a child abuser. I'm not saying he's not but I'm also not saying he is...and most importantly, that's besides the point anyway.
But it's unfair that people like to point out so many negatives about him (be it true or false) but fail to ever mention how many donations he's ever made all over the world.

Oh and I just want to add, he is one of the most TALENTED people in the world...and that Justin Timberlake is just a wannabe who doesn't even have a pinch of MJ's talent

you'd have to pay me that much for 30secs with him

I was thinking the same thing!

I know he is a pop icon and everything, and maybe he is harmless, but I am spooked by him.

That is disguisting. To ask your own fans (who buy all your records and merchandise anyway, therefore contributing greatly to your earning capacity anyway) to pay that obscene amount of money to spend a measly 30 seconds!!! Pop Icon or not, he is just taking advantage and exploiting his fans

Poor old Jacko...

Jacko events tickets remain unsold {yahoo}

Just days before Michael Jackson hosts two exclusive fan events in Tokyo, promoters say tickets have not sold out.

Jackson's VIP meet-and-greet party on Thursday, followed by a fan art contest the next day, is seen as putting the spotlight back on the singer in one of his traditional strongholds following his acquittal on child molestation charges in 2005.
Screaming fans greeted Jackson when he arrived for his second visit to Japan in recent years.
But tickets for both main events were available on Tuesday, perhaps a reflection of the high price demanded for a brush with fame.
Guests paying 400,000 yen (£1,800) to attend Thursday's VIP party get to mingle with Jackson and spend up to one minute of exclusive face time with him, according to organisers.
It was unclear whether the star will perform any songs. Those on a tighter budget can pay 15,000 yen (£67) for Friday's fan art contest, which will also be hosted by the award-winning artist.

Weren't there fans in London who shelled out big $$$ to see him or to see him sing and he basically copped out but kept the money? Michael likes to milk his fans for every cent he can get and lets face it given the fact that he hasn't had a decent hit record in ohhhhhh a decade or so he needs every penny.

Oh I think he's a child abuser. I work in the field of policing and he's a classic pedophile - grooming the kids. picking on kids from broken homes or who would be considered damaged - all the better to discredit them at trial. He whole little boy lost routine is an act so he can come across as unthreatening. Don't even get me started on those 3 kids that he passes off as his own, they'll be seriously messed up for life.

Oh and I'd love to see some hard proor of MJ's charitable works, so often his grand plans fall apart. Wasn't he going to do some tsunami charity single or such? I think most of the good works are for show it's all PR.

Fact is he can't stop his behavior and one day he will get caught red handed with a kid and either the parent will go after him or the police will.
