TV INSIDER: Model Insights From MTV Beauty Koth
Kansas City native Britt Koth, who stars on the MTV reality series '8th & Ocean,' says if she can become a model, then anyone can. Ok, well, not anyone. 'I would just say to give it a shot,' she tells young hopefuls. 'The best thing to do is send your pictures into agencies. Then they can look at your pictures and decide if they want to go any further with you. Also, watch the show and learn from our successes and mistakes. If this is something you really want to do and this would be a good career for you, it could happen. It happened for me and I'm from nowhere in Kansas City. It just takes one person believing in you.' Aw.
Despite any drama that has ensued on the MTV show, Britt claims that her more experienced cast mates genuinely cared about helping her figure out the modeling business. 'I think it's fun to show other people the business,' she claims. 'I think they wanted to help me and teach me. It's like when you know something you want to be the experienced person helping the others. It kind of makes you feel good to help other people.' Well, that certainly seems like a first for the modeling world.
However, if there were any hard feelings, Britt might not have been the first to know about it. 'I don't think there was a lot of vocal competitiveness in the house. I think if there is any competition in modeling, you don't say, 'Ew, you're my competition. Get away from me.' You have to make friends with everybody and if you feel competitive then it's something you have to conquer because it's not pretty to see,' she explains. And obviously models must always be pretty.
She continues, 'It's like thinking, 'Well, you got that job, but I'm going to get a better job,' but you just keep that in your head. I think it's more of an internal thing that every model struggles with whether they admit it or not.' Now that Britt and her fellow models have finished filming, she tells us that they have all managed to maintain their friendships. 'I live with the twins [Kelly and Sabrina] now and it's hysterical every day just living with them,' she says with a laugh. 'In fact, we're all still good friends. We're basically glued to each other's hips because we have the same job with the same agency, and we're all living in this small beach together.'
