(sorry if this is not the place to post this :ninja: )

I got acrylic nails done and they are now chipping off and underneath my nails look terrible! :yuk:
But there is still acrylic on my nails, so i was wondering if any of you knew any way i can get it off? I went back to the salon that i got them done at and they said they have to rip them off (ouch) i also went to the chemist and they gave me acetone but unforunetly this hasn't worked well and has completely dried out my fingers....

So please help me someone!!!

Aceton dissolves the acrylic...pad it on or soak your nails in aceton and it will remove the acrylic completly, I know It dries out your nail but as far as I know its the only way to get rid of them.?! DONT rip them of (I did and the result was not so good:( )..you will damage the nail underneath if you do..

^ ok thanks for your reply, i was hoping there was another way, but i will just have to stick with the acetone. and i tried to rip them off but it hurt to much so i stopped - it felt like it was ripping my nails up with it.
ugh i am never getting acrylics done again!

I had an acrylic nail last summer (just one ),the only way that you can get rid of them is pure acetone, but not the one that we use regulary for our nail polishers. If you put your fingers in pure acetone and wait for like 10-15 minutes (depending on how strong your acrylic nails are)you'll see the acrylic layer will tear apart and with little help of someting like nail file you can scrape it from your nail.

Yep thats right, soak them in acetone and use some cotton to wipe them off. I dont know what salon you went to, but ripping them off is wrong! Its damaging and its not the right way to do it.
Sometimes the nail technician can file them down a bit too so soaking them is easier. It is very drying and it may make your nails feel really weak but remember to moisturise them after.

Usually I would recommend getting UV nails I think its less damage for your natural nails underneath. :flower:

I had acrylic nails done in the US and when i came back home a month afterward i had to rip them off it was horrible. My nails were weak before but after that much worst. I tried aceton and it didn't work so iquess that i wasn't pure.

Since no matter what you do you'll probably end with weaker nails here is a trick i could not believe works but does. Drink a LOT of milk it really strenths your nails mine used to chip and no longer do.

What are UV Nails?

Thanks everyone for your replies. :flower: I ended soaking them in acetone (pure) for about 30 minutes and they finally dissolved away. I still had a little left on there but i just filed it away. My nails are soooo weak its horrible! Never ever ever getting them again!

Any tips on getting my nails stronger again (i drink 2 glasses milk a day) or do i have to wait until they grow out?

Sorryy I mean UV gel. They put on the nail tip and brush UV gel on top. Then you put your nails under a UV lamp for a given time and its all done. Its really easy and quick. Plus, they are easy to take off yourself.

I think you have to giv your nails some time to get back to its usual strength. Remember to moisturise them.

they just make me think of footballers wives......

^ thats true, when its done in the worst way. Acrylic nails should definitely not have the white nail tips longer than the pink of your nails, thats when it looks really tacky.

Other than that keeping the false nails short it can look good. ^_^

oh ok thanks for your help vintage_pricess! :flower: UV Gel sounds great! Are they as strong as acrylic?

I moisturise all the time cause the acetone really dried them out and put cuticle cream on cause my cuticles are wrecked!

I wouldnt say thay are as tough as acrylic because they are super tough and feel really hard to get off (as you know!) but they are strong enough to last a few weeks depending how much you look after your nails.
Also, they are more likely to "ping" off and do less damage. :flower:

wow they sound much better than acrylic!!
and lol about the ping!

Thanks so much for your help vintage! :flower:

You are welcome pink_lipgloss

..and yes they really do ping off..I had them done a few years ago and they just come off on their own! (which is better than having to rip them off!)

Pink Lipgloss

I recommend that you invest in a cuticle oil (like Nailtiques) and apply morning and night and massage in to each nail. When the condition of your nails have improved, you could try Bio-Sculpture. You can have nail extenions with this product or just painted over your natural nails (like nail polish). It puts goodness back into your nails, doesn't smell horrid when applying and looks really natural.

This may help
www.biosculpture.co.uk
It's the uk site, but i'm pretty sure they do it all over.

I am just training in this application at the moment, so if you have any other questions about nails, nail extensions etc just ask.

I just don't understand if acrylics do so much damage to your natural nails, why do people get them. My friend gets acrylics all the time and when she actually took them off and I saw her real nails, I was like "eww...." brown, chipped, very weak. Why would anyone wanna do such damage?

^when i got them it was my first time and i didn't know how much damage it would do to my nails. If i did i never would have gotten them!!
I don't understand why people want them either!
Even now, its been 2 months since i used acetone to get the nails off but there is still some there, its like its bruised my fingernail, its hard to explain but it looks crap!

^thanks. I keep the polish on just so they don't look so bad as well, and i have this acrylic restoration stuff that i put on as well. I am just waiting for them to grow out now.

Acrylic can look really good, but of course everyone should know how tough it is to get off.
