This is so gross, I've just started getting nail polish manicures and all of a sudden, my nails have turned yellow! :yuk:
They use a base coat, but I am sure this is from the polish.

Any suggestions as to how I can get them back to normal? I don't want to have to wear polish all the time and my nails used to be pretty before this happened. Can I bleach them somehow???

Please help!!

they will return to normal colour - it's just a result of having worn nailpolish too long :flower:

Right, but I can't go without the polish with them yellow...it looks so disgusting. Is there any fix to get them back to normal right away?

hmm.. I allways thought taht the reason why nails turn yellow is because the polish sealed the nails off from oxygen..

but there migth be another explanation :

Nix Yellow Nails

I took off my red polish and my nails look nicotine-stained. What gives?

Red, burgundy, and brown-based polishes contain dark pigments that can leave behind a yellow stain on nails, especially if you skip a protective base coat, says Mona Monaghan, senior vice president and general manager of Sally Hansen Group. To lighten your nasty-looking nails, pour three capfuls of hydrogen peroxide into one-third cup of water and soak your fingers for two minutes. Then dip a toothbrush into the solution and brush your talons for a superclean finish. Next, massage both cuticles and nails with a cuticle oil that contains vitamin E. Wait two minutes, then completely remove the oil with a nonacetone polish remover. Prevent those unsightly stains from recurring by applying a moisture-locking base coat before you paint your pointers again. Try Sally Hansen Teflon Tuff, $5.95.

Is that doesnt work, you could just take a soft nail file and file away the thin top layer on the nails :flower:

Thanks so much :flower:
I'll try both of those.

I also read on another website to try soaking in bleach and water, and then scrub with whitening toothpaste. I may have to try that too, although I'm afraid the bleach will hurt my nails.

Always remember to use a base coat, then the polish color you use will stay on the base coat not your nail.

I do always use base coat, I think it must be the base coat that is discoloring my nails.

This is going to sound gross, but make sure you didn't get infected with a fungus. Many fungal infections discolor nails and require medical treatment. I bring my own tools and I always request that everything is sanitized before it is used on me.

soak your finger fingers in lemon juice for a few minutes.

Lemon juice or the peroxide solution works. I've used both in the past when my nails went yellow.

Sorry, I meant finger nails. I wouldn't try bleach, you may have an allergic reaction or something. Good luck.
