exaclty, so have I. One of my close friends was getting professional training - she was extremely skinny, but they kept pressuring her to lose "five more pounds" - and each time she did, they'd ask her to lose another five. Eventually she just quit because she couldn't handle the pressure

In ballet, teachers, choreographers, everybody is extremely harsh. I studied ballet for most of my childhood to my early teens. At one point I weighed about 92 lbs at 5'6 and was praised for it. I love ballet, but I also don't think I would encourage anyone to take it up seriously, unless something changes.

did you know that adina used to be a ballerina? ballerina. the skinniest people on the planet. just something to think of. it's not like modeling has suddenly changed her body type. she's probably been this tiny since she was 14, and chroeographers have got to be just as harsh as casting agents.

Many ballerinas stop dancing because they actually don't have the right body type. How many 5'11 female dancers are there at the ABT or NYCB?


She is looking much better this season.

That's very true - height can be a detriment as a ballerina - esp. when there's a necessity for lifts with male partners.

Anyone recall the Russian ballerina that was fired for being "fat"? ...pressure is terrible.

I wonder if part of this is fashion pressure and prior pressures placed on the models... (how many of the above listed - re: hana - have been dancers or in other interests which required a strict system?)
