Adriana Lima dumped billionaire Prince Wenzenslaus of Lichtenstein for rocker Danny

It's okay. I understand. :flower:

But as thefrancofille pointed out, there are a large number of portuguese that inhabit Brazil (the Portuguese being the largest ethnic group in Brazil), most of Brazil's population being of Portuguese descent. Aren't spanish and portuguese the two major languages of Brazil, with Portuguese being the official language of Brazil? I did some research, because I seriously didn't think that I was that dumb. But good to know that I wasn't completely out of left field.

Either way, the people are gorgeous.

No, you weren't way out there. You were incorrect about Adriana's ethnicity, but in general terms, the connection between Portugal and Brazil isn't as out there as some posters are taking it to be.

I disagree with what I hav put in bold letters but I have to say this is the most hilarious post I have read in a long time!!!

Glad to entertain Urban! :P I don't know why I am defending her though - other than she seems like a sweet girl. I can't bear her face. That is not a model. That is a cute local schoolgirl. Yes the Rampling comparison was rather left field -I think Harumi was just trying to use two extremes to illustrate -but even when you put her next to Barros or Bundchen or Hertzigova, she falls very short.

Reading is fundamental: please, go back and read again, because I wasn't the poster who made the statement that Adriana was Portuguese.

the original connection that I was commenting on was the geographic connection that was made, which doesn't exist. as electricladyland pointed out, I'm very much aware of the history of my own country and what connections we may have or not have with portugal. as she again pointed out, my original comment was simply to correct the "from that general area" part of the comment, a correction I was trying to do in a friendly way, it was never meant to start a bickering war.

and while I don't know exact numbers and percentages, I can tell you that there are more descendants of africans than portuguese in the brazilian population. furthermore, much like the US, Brazil is a melting pot, a land of immigrants, I think there are just as many people who come from italian, german, lebanese, or japanese families as portuguese ones. and no, spanish is no way a major language of brazil, not even a minor one.

and to include something on topic in this post, I completely agree with Nemova that Adriana has a lot more in common with the prince than with Danny.

I'm not sorry to pick on anyone, but I thought the same thing as mundo when I read your post. Being Brazilian herself, I'm sure mundo is well aware of the Portuguese colonization of Brazil. I think your wording threw things off because you said, "Brazil/Portugal or is from that general area." Although there may be cultural overlaps due to colonization the two countries are geographically distant and therefore not in the general area.

And by the way, i've seen some very unattractive people from portugal.

Wow.

Who knew this would turn into such a big thing.

Now that we have all have learned a cultural/historical lesson and that there are some ugly people from Portugal (not in the "general area" of) we can all get back to talking about........ Adriana Lima and her making out with this dude named Danny.

Please, research again. :flower: Spanish isn't, not by a long shot, one of the two major languages in Brazil. In fact, most brazilians can't speak Spanish. And the portuguese aren't the largest ethnic group in Brazil. There are so many misconceptions about my country I felt the need to clear things up. If you really want ubiased info on Brazil you could always check the CIA's World Factbook (but even there you'll find some minor mistakes).

I definitely had this feeling while I was in Bahia. It is a very African city, and everything from the food, clothing, music, religious traditions, are very African. The people look either African or some mixture containing African ancestry. Just beautiful! Your post points out why so many people have trouble figuring out the ethnicities of Brazilian models such as Adriana.

As far as Timbalada's music goes, it is really samba, samba-reggae, carnival music. It is infectious, and I can't sit still listening to it! You need lots of energy, rhythm and sensuality to dance to it...maybe something Danny has over the Prince...:innocent:

Okay.

Thank you.

....I love Portuguese language. It sounds so sexy! And in nooo way does it come close to sounding like spanish. Not to offend, but to me, the spanish language doesn't sound so sexy, or remotely cute. :D

I'm positive she had no future with the prince. The royal family would NEVER accept her in.

There's nothing wrong with her but she lacks that grace and elegance I associate with royals.

Adriana - a royal? HAhahahahaa sorry I just have to laugh. If she became princess of my country I'd renounce citizenship and ship out.
I'm sure she's a nice person and I don't have anything against her in general, but royal material she is not..

Aww, don't say that. :( Spanish is such a sexy language. :brows:

^ Yes it is! Oooh la la.....

And LOL @ this royal talk! Yes, royals are the utter epitome of style, grace and class. A member of the royal family would NEVER do anything morally corrupt, or dare I say "trashy"! Throughout their existence, royals have proven to be the most perfect creatures ever placed on this earth (by Divine Right of course!)

Of course royals aren't truly 'elegant or classy'. But they think they're so above the rest so even if a royal is corrupt, he/she has to be elegantly and snobbily corrupt. The more elite, the more corrupt and exclusive it gets.

^ I would exempt the Northern European and English royal families from that sweeping statement
