Milan Review: Alberta Ferretti
An aesthetic evolution

Tuesday, February 24, 2004
THE LOOK: There’s nothing we like better than watching a designer evolve her signature style. Alberta Ferretti is the Queen of the Kingdom called ‘chiffon’, but there are only so many years one can stay fresh inside its fluffy palace walls. This season, she broke out and the result was a spectacular show filled with lady-like details and beautiful workmanship. Ferretti swapped chiffon for satin as her preferred eveningwear material, but she sliced into the fabric with artistic cuts that left beautiful geometric designs from head to toe on sexy full length gowns or cocktail dresses. The razor cut theme was translated into prim pencil skirts with seaming and flared pleats and, most spectacularly, on suede or felt belted jackets that had rows of fur spliced into them. The whole look was pulled together, as always, in a prim, neat way—with colored leather belts tied into bows, and with overcoats with peter pan collars. Extra points: the fabulous color palette which paired asparagus green with face powder pink and threw in dashes of aqua blue and burgundy.
Hair: Mussed chignons capped low at the nape
Makeup: A heavy dip in the vanity case: strong eye and lip – previously a no-no, but with these sweet looks, anything goes.

BUZZWORDS: Dice, slice and spice! Tweed chic, prim ‘50s

On her new slit-cut techniques: “It’s a new technique for me and I was feeling very inspired. I like to evolve my style and I actually think this is a new concept of luxury—one that’s attentive to delicate details but in a very modern way.”

:flower: I was looking at this collection again, and I've started to like it even more - I also love the hair and makeup
