Bargain hunt: Alex Curran gives the designer shops a miss for budget chic in Primark

Last updated at 19:56pm on 27th February 2008

With a football player husband who takes home £90,000 a week, it's the last place one might expect to see Wag Alex Curran.
But it appears even the wife of Steven Gerrard has caught the cheap chic bug, as she was seen carrying a bag from budget store Primark while shopping in Liverpool yesterday.

Perhaps it was all in the name of research for Alex, 25, who writes a column on budget fashion for a tabloid newspaper.

In fairness, Primark is known for fashionable beachwear, and its fashion-forward clothing lines appear on many must-have lists.
Still, Alex wasn't completely letting lofty standards slip, as she carried her Zagliani python skin bag - no bargain at over £1,000.
She also showed off a pair of Yves Saint Laurent 'Tribute' shoes valued at £400.

Price is right: Maybe the prices were laughably low for the 25-year-old who is more used to splashing the cash on designer clothes like Liverpool boutique Cricket

The mother-of-two girls, Lily-Ella, three; and Lexie, 20 months, who married Gerrard in a lavish cermemony last June also carried bags from fashionista's favourite store TopShop.
Despite her big spending WAG reputation Alex said recently she is a big fan of the simple things.
She said: "My husband, Steven, warms up my car for me when I am in a rush and he fills it up with petrol on his way home so I don't have to.
"Things like this give me little boosts every day and mean the world to me."
Alex's luxurious lifestyle is well documented. Two weeks ago, it was no expense spared as she stayed in a £2,000-a-night luxury villa in Dubai on a girls only holiday in the Middle East East with Jude Cisse, wife of ex-Liverpool star Djibril and Thierry Henry's former wife Claire.
And for Christmas she received a £100,000 Mercedes car from her footballer husband. Last year a break-in at the Gerrard's Liverpool mansion last December occurred after Alex - who was confronted by the raiders - revealed in a celebrity magazine she had bought Gerrard a £10,000 Cartier watch for Christmas.

The WAG life has never looked so good.

Alex Curran enjoyed yet another day of sunshine and luxury in Dubai today, where she is holidaying with a pregnant Jude Cisse, wife of ex-Liverpool star Djibril and Thierry Henry's former wife Claire.

The 25-year-old - whose husband Steven Gerrard led England to a laboured 2-1 win at Wembley last night - was spotted lounging by her hotel pool in another bikini for the second day in a row.

Wayne Rooney's fiancée Coleen McLoughlin is also making the most of her sun holiday – she has been in Barbados since earlier this week on a girls only getaway.

Alex and her fellow WAGs are said to be staying at an exclusive £2000-a-night villa - complete with a personal butler.

On call: Alex takes a moment to phone a friend - or perhaps her husband Steven Gerrard

It's the latest luxurious treat for the 25-year-old Alex - earlier this month she was seen driving her £100,000 Mercedes C class AMG, a Christmas present from her Gerrard while totting a £1,500 Zagliani python-skin handbag.

All distractions, perhaps, from the trauma she experienced in December as four masked raiders broke into her £3million mansion while her two young daughters slept upstairs.

She was confronted by the intruders after they hammered down a back door at her home.

She said: "It was absolutely terrifying, a horrendous experience."

The robbers escaped with jewellery worth thousands of pounds. It was the sixth raid in 18 months on the home of a Liverpool player.
Gerrard has since employed a security team at the family's home.

Alex Curran: A friend says she is 'trying to be strong'

Hours after announcing that she had bought her husband a £10,000 Cartier watch for Christmas, the wife of England footballer Steven Gerrard was confronted by four masked burglars.

Alex Curran was at the couple's £3million mansion with a female friend, watching her husband play on TV, when they heard a noise.

They went to investigate and found themselves facing the raiders, who had taken thousands of pounds worth of jewellery and a woman's Rolex - but not the Cartier timepiece. They also took two sets of car keys.

It was not clear yesterday whether the gang, all wearing balaclavas, threatened 25-year-old Miss Curran, whose daughters Lilly Ella, three, and one-year-old Lexie were asleep upstairs.

The thieves are believed to have escaped through the front door of the Merseyside property as she called 999.
Gerrard, who was playing for Liverpool in Marseille at the time of Tuesday night's raid, is the sixth player from the club to be targeted in 18 months. Two Everton footballers were also hit.

Most of the burglaries happened when they were playing and the clubs are considering placing extra security on their homes at match times.

Outside his mansion yesterday, 27-year-old Gerrard said: "It's a police matter, but everyone's fine and that's the main thing. Alex is a bit shaken up, but she's OK. I'm just relieved nobody's been hurt."

Alex wrote in her shopping column for the Daily Mirror today: "It was absolutely terrifying. It was a horrendous experience and I'm still feeling shaken up but fortunately we are all OK and now it is on the hands of the police.

Steven Gerrard yesterday: 'I'm just relieved no-one's been hurt'

"Lilly and Lexie were my biggest concern. Thankfully, they are absolutely fine. They managed to sleep through the whole thing thank goodness.
"I'm still feeling too traumatised to talk about it much. I just don't want to relive it all.'

The house is only 500 yards from a police station and officers were quickly at the scene as a helicopter hovered overhead. They interviewed neighbours and examined footprints in the area.

The mansion is fronted by high wooden gates which can be opened only via an intercom.

However, sources close to the investigation revealed that the men smashed their way in through a door at the back of the property. It is thought they gained access via the rear garden, where Gerrard is having a new gym erected.

Officers are investigating the possibility that the raiders read articles which appeared in the Liverpool Echo and Closer magazine on Tuesday.

The newspaper article prowereclaimed: "Steven Gerrard will be waking up to a new Cartier watch on Christmas Day.' Few details were given of the burglars' haul, but detectives emerged from the mansion carrying a catalogue featuring luxury watches.

Neighbours described how minutes after the burglary Miss Curran's family, who live nearby, rushed to the house.

One said: "I looked out of the window and I could see a police helicopter shining a spotlight on Steven's garden.

"Then a few cars sped up and quite a few people got out. They pressing the intercom at the gates. One of them said, 'Alex don't worry, it's the family' before the gates opened."

A friend of the couple's family said: "The burglars have no respect. They trashed the place trying to find the valuables and then just waltzed out through the front gate. You can see their muddy footprints in the drive.

"Alex is heartbroken by what's happened. But she's trying to be strong for Steven and the kids."

In December last year a man from Tuebrook, Liverpool, was jailed for burglaries at the homes of Liverpool stars Jerzy Dudek, Peter Crouch and Daniel Agger, and Everton footballers Tony Hibbert and Andy Van der Meyde.

They involved property worth more than £600,000.

A spokesman for Liverpool FC said the club would be reviewing security for its players. "Our first concerns are for the welfare of Alex, Steven and the family.

"But we are aware that several members of our team have been targeted in this way. The club takes this extremely seriously and we will be looking at ways to provide cover for the players' houses while they are away on domestic and international duty."

Fake tans at dawn: WAG Alex and Jordan join forces in eight-hour bender

Between them they've got five children - but they're clearly not giving Jordan or Alex Curran any sleepless nights as the pair found the energy to teamed up for an all-night club crawl.

Looking distinctly bleary-eyed, the two women both dressed in mini-dresses, high heels, and copious amounts of make-up hit four different London nightspots in one night.

Painting the town orange: WAG Alex Curran and glamour girl Jordan joined forces for an eight-hour bender in London's West End

WAG Alex had come to the capital with husband, Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard, for a romantic weekend, but it seems the romance part was forgotten as she hit the town on a eight-hour bender with new pal Jordan.
The pair started their London club crawl at 9pm on Saturday at celebrity make-up artist Gary Cockerill's birthday bash in Sin.

Party-girl: Alex left hubby Steven Gerrard for the evening to party with Jordan in London top clubs

According to the Mirror, at 12.50am they decided to head to the Embassy and, after two hours there, moved on to Shadow Lounge where probably looking much the worse for wear, they got turned away and instead went to Balans in Soho.
A source told The Mirror: "They had a blast and will definitely hook up again soon." Whereas Steven Gerrard didn't try to keep up with his wife, opting to stay at the hotel, Jordan's husband Peter Andre started the night with the girls, but obviously couldn't take the pace as he reportedly went home just after midnight.

NOT JORDAN AGAIN:yuk:!!!

10th March 2008

Newly demure Katie Price unleashed party girl Jordan over the weekend, and the results were wild.

The star joined forces with her occasional party pal Alex Curran, 27, the wife of footballer Steven Gerrard.

Lean on me: Alex Curran helps Jordan out of a Liverpool club after a night on the town over the weekend

After party hopping their way around Liverpool, including a stop at former Atomic Kitten singer Natasha Hamilton's H Bar, the 29-year-old ended the night looking very worse for wear.

The bleary eyed model had to be propped up Alex, who had managed to retain her composure, as they left the club.

Later, a chivalrous passer-by was forced to swooped in to save Jordan from toppling over completely.

Adding to the rather messy state of affairs, there was a even an unsightly stain down the front of Jordan's thigh-skimming grey dress.

Earlier the pair, who have been friends since first meeting at a celebrity party some time ago, spent the afternoon visiting a day spa together.

Jordan has been enjoying a more settled life with husband Peter Andre and three children Harvey, Junior and Princess in recent times, but can't always resist the temptation of a big night out.

She has said: "I like going out partying and drinking occasionally but I'm the one who has to wake up with the hangover."

Girls day: the pair spent the afternoon at a day spa before their night out.
