It's On with Alexa Chung at Madewell

“I get frustrated when I can’t afford to buy something, or I think something is stupidly priced,” said Alexa Chung Monday night at the sneak peek of her collection for Madewell, J.Crew’s affordable and decidedly less preppy brand, at the Bowery Hotel. The model and MTV host was in close contact with the company throughout the design process. She sketched ideas, turned to her own closet for inspiration, and received photo updates in England. On Sunday, she finally held the pieces. “I just went to see the finished collection yesterday and I was just so happy. There wasn’t one thing that I wasn’t happy with,” she said. “It all turned out really well.”

Indeed. Walking around the space, I realized I wanted just about everything. Models perched atop mini-sets—some sitting prettily on suitcases, others lounging on benches or leaning against bicycles—to present the playful line of velvet shorts, generous blazers, sweet button-downs, and slim trousers. Among them, I recognized a few familiar faces: Poppy Delevigne and Pixie Geldof. “They came to be in it!” said Chung. “I am very lucky to have a lot of pretty friends.”

“We have been friends for a long time,” said Delevigne from her presentation station. In addition to assisting with modeling and entertainment (D.J. Tennessee Thomas was in the booth), Chung says, her “mates” were her muses. To be sure, we’ll be seeing this very American label plastered all over It Brits this fall.

Alex and Alexa are going to have to start wearing different coloured scrunchies so we'll be able to tell them apart. Genuinely a bit weirded out by how similar they look...in fact I think they need to sort out a DNA test soon before they start producing babies with webbed feet...

 laisla! If only Alex would follow Alexa's lead by going back to his 2007 hair..
