She doesn't really do much in terms of her career...the reason she is in the spotlight is because she attends events and the paparzzi follow her around.... I can't see them stopping really

this is something the kardashians or nicole richie does. alexa has a career, she may not be a big time actress or musician but she actually does something for a living that isn't just showing up for events or anything like that

Ok so she doesnt have to hold down a 9-5 job 5 days a week but I would imagine long-haul flights, late nights and the fast-paced, high-pressured environments of fashion and television eventually take their toll.
And she is in work. At the moment she's fronting two shows (Gonzo, Thrift America), she seems to be genuinely involved in designing the Madewell line and is model/spokesperson for several brands (hence why she goes to lots of events). Plus theres probably a number of other things in development that we don't know about.

Im not suggesting this kind of work is comparable to being on the front line in Afghanistan or whatever but nevertheless I think we tend to make the mistake of thinking this kind of lifestyle is full of glamour 24/7 when in reality its probably a lot different. Alexa wouldnt be the first person in the public eye to succumb to the pressure and call time out.

And anyway, we are assuming that if this rumour is true she is doing it because she feels over worked. perhaps she wants to spend time with family or go to uni. who knows.

Personally I think she should take time out for reason I'm not allowed to say so I hope this is true. Yes I would miss the outfits but that's purely for selfish reasons and jeez...its not the end of the world!

I completely agree. The most annoying thing is when people said it's not hard/not work if you don't work eight hours a day every day of the week in an office etc. I can't imagine the pressure of being on live tv would be very enjoyable, or having to work 16 hour days (like she did for a year in NY). Yes, she goes to parties and fashion events which could be fun (I'm guessing it gets repetitive/boring), but those long hours must be hard to deal with, and not having time for meals/sleep. And those weekly long flights must be hell :-(
If this is true, I'm happy for her that she's resting. I sincerely hope she decides to go to uni now, perhaps learn (in her words) the 'ins and outs of design', perhaps 'come back' with a fresh mind, new inspiration and new outlook on fashion (I was thinking maybe her style was getting a bit stale, not very Alexa-y anymore). Good for her!

^ I think that people sometimes misunderstand what having a "style" means. (This is merely triggered by your post, LuellaLuella, and not a response to it, you're not the people I'm talking about.) Alexa has been getting flack recently about her outfits. Some had said that she dresses like a small girl and it's no longer appropriate for her age, some complain that her wardrobe contains too many high-end brands and no longer has the charm it did five years ago, some complain it hasn't changed enough.

I think the point of style is that it is not about following general trends, but selecting personally complimenting clothing within the trends available each season. It's also about evolving. I think Alexa has done an excellent job both maturing her style and staying true to it; retaining the same shapes and simplicities that flatter her figure most.

As to her taking a break; though I'd miss the constant barrage of new outfits, I also think that it could be healthy for her. She has seemed a bit more stressed than usual recently.

I've noticed that in pictures, she hasn't looked very happy, or as happy and full-of-life as she did a few years ago, when she just seemed so much younger. And is it just me or is her hair thinning a bit? :-( I think her style is still one of the best out of all the celebrities out there, and she definitely has a natural style. I just think it's different to how it was even just a year ago - I think each year her style has been different, and I prefer her...hmm 'outfit choices' from a few years ago (2009 and before). I don't mind she dresses like a five-year-old/granny. I don't think it's any worse her dressing that way when she's 27 than when she's 22-26. It's so her, and I'd be disappointed, and even confused, if she changed that!

Could not agree more, that it exactly what I was thinking. Alexa is a typical 'celebrity' figure, she's just very low key when it comes to relationships/scandals etc. And the event's she chooses to attends, fashion labels she works with/or endorses and publications she writes for (Vogue, Company etc.) aren't as 'trashy' so to speak. She is a rare breed of celebrity that tries not to be a celebrity and doesn't want people think of her as one. That's why she only does interviews for fashion magazines such as Vogue, because she wants to be portrayed as a fashion icon rather than celebrity. Although given the definition of celebrity that's exactly what she is. People are fooled into thinking she isn't just a celebrity because she gives off a much more classy demeanour and doesn't parade her private life all over the press.
