Alexander McQueen Mens S/S 07 Milan

McQueen's always bollocking on about how he takes his inspiration from pop culture but it's actually all about Marcel Proust (or something). So it fits that he says the collection is about Harlem (pop culture reference). But really it's about Mahler, but Mahler is only within the context of a film (pop culture), but the film is based on a novel (high culture). And let's not even talk about the opera...

What fun one can have with palimpsests and ginger-ale...

What did you put in that ginger ale? :woot::lol:

beautiful collection..

i really enjoy his choice of colour palette

well an novel !!!

Does anyone know what McQueen directly cites as his influences for this collection?

It's the paranoiac, possibly racist, ramblings of a barely sane (Polish-) Englishman. But that's pretty much a short history of English literature...
I hope i can find this book in store and read it .. so this is Harlem where he has been inspired ... ????

the styling and the romantic mood:rolleyes:, colour palette etc work(a little femme if u ask me but thats the whole romantic thing isnt it:p).. I dont like it and wont wear any of this as its too embellished for my liking but i see many who would like it.. I can appreciate the quality of these garments, they look exquisitely made... but some of those pleated pants gosh:shock:.. i liked raf's but those baggy white ones are bad.. unless youre a cool 50+.:flower:

half of the comments in this thread makes me feel really ... hum ... ignorant .. it seems that the IQ of tFS-ers is not something to ignore ...

*runs to the library to try to get smarter*

Hum ... Im a bit confused about all this references ... still ... I just enjoy the exotism of travel and romance as the mood for the collection

The more than clear reference with the beekeepers is Luchino Visconti's film, of course.
The general mood is indeed very "colonialism" with those pastel colours

I wish he had done something deeper with Death in Venice. Maybe a couple of umbrellas  ! Or a little Tadzio
