Alexander McQueen Resort 2013

It's directional: that's good. And, I agree, it's tailored: that's a McQueen hallmark, so also good.

I like this collection, and more importantly, I am excited to see where it leads to next.

She's really concentrated on McQueen's tailoring legacy for resort, perhaps because she hasn't done it justice in the past.. I think she has here.
Everything is still minus that hard-edge McQueen had, but there are some very wearable, extremely desirable clothes here, to wear when you are fed up with your tiered wedding cake from last season.

i would've never guessed that this is McQueen, I would've said Armani or even Versace but definitely not McQueen, and that is just sad

I`m not impressed but at least it`s not as awful as the F/W 12/13 collection.

(I can`t believe I have to write "not as awful" when talking about a McQueen collection :( )

I like it, but I can see what everyone's saying - it's missing that authentic McQueen touch - and maybe we're expecting too much - after all, Burton is not McQueen. She designs for the label, she's not the eponymous designer. We may never see that McQueen touch ever again through Burton. But I do think she's stayed as loyal to the late McQueen's vision and aesthetic as anyone possibly can. McQueen's look was very focused - goth, punk, hard edged, etc., but at the same time, you never know what the next collection's theme was going to be, unlike signature themes from Dolce Gabbana (Italo-Milanese), Dior (new look), Chanel (tweed jackets), etc. So I can't really agree with the disappointment that's being expressed against Burton.

J'adore! It is edgy yet accessible. It does not look like it was cribbed from Versace but many of the looks seem pulled from the same aesthetical reservoir.

This may sound heretical, but when McQueen took over Givenchy he declared the still living Hubert de Givenchy irrelevant, so I can't bring myself to be too put out over Burton presumably forging her own identity and pulling from within herself and her own experiences, and not working towards everything that she sends down the runway corresponding to what McQueen would create.

In general I do believe that the DNA of the founder and previous Creative Directors should be respected and be present in some way in legacy houses, so I don't subscribe to McQueen's POV that the founder is irrelevant, but I don't think that that means that every creation and collection has to reflect the founder, and that the current Creative Director cannot contribute his / her DNA to the evolution process of the house.

To people saying this is not McQueen:

But what I think is that Burton is relying more and more in the work McQueen did for Givenchy. Even the furballs and feathers can be related to the work McQueen did for Givenchy. Even the lace masks...
(I do hope she gets inspired by the 1997 collections!)

I absolutely fail to see the similarities between this collection and anything Armani or Versace would produce.

people actually like this crap? why are we supporting burton? SHE IS BUTCHERING MCQUEEN'S GOOD NAME

1. She is doing a pretty damn good job and
if you know Mcqueen's history, this collection is pretty close to his work for Givenchy in the 90s. I understand you have your opinion but just simply dismissing her work as "CRAP" without any merit or reason is not warranted.
Secondly try and find any designer who can fill her shoes for a brand like Alexander Mcqueen and you will not be able too.

+1 Morphe, there is nothing remotely reminding me Armani or Versace

LOVE this collection!!
I do understand what people are saying about the McQueen Edge, but this is fun too!! :D
