Ali Michael

I love that Last Magazine editorial. She looks totally laid back without looking blank or lost and I think she achieves that very well in many of her print work.
I wonder if she will have the chance to score another high end campaign.

Ali is really beautiful! and i really think is cool of her part be part of the TFS members! LOL!

Ali didn't show up this season on any catwalk but got two recent covers in less time you need to say it. She looked at her very best on both Mixte and Wallpaper, showing her strong/unique look doesn't keep her away from being versatile. There's something playful about the way she poses even if there is this rather dark, dramatic vibe around her (thick brows, pale skin and intense gaze). We weren't her first supporters since day one but her editorial work won us over. Page after page, magazine after magazine and no matter who was the photographer. Her Lula cover or editorial from Vogue Russia by KT Auleta are still among the masterpieces of her career but seem to call for other ones. Hope soon. At least we have this one which perfectly summarize Ali's trademark (without getting gimmicky).

She looks beautiful in that picture, I've never seen that one before. Everything about her face is perfect in my opinion....
Thanks for that. :D

the funniest thing about that cheap photoshop is that they made Ali so so short. Either that or the guy is 7 foot tall.

Interesting mini-debate about Ali's career choices:

[ehmm] I found young darling Ali Michael on the walls of Wallpaper magazine; for their March 09 Fashion issue. She's shot in a pair of shoes, by photographer Paola Kudacki. and I'm not sure if this was the right move for her career!
When a model normally goes nude, it feels right and artistic, when it's within the confine of a high fashion publication, like Vogue Paris, V, or Purple magazine. But when it's done for a mag like Wallpaper, that is not fashion focused, it just feels like a demotion and an act of desperation. The two do not fit well together.
Has Ali lost her luster? Or has her mom stopped managing her?
Not too long ago Ali was on Teen vogue, Lula, and NY Times' TMagazine, shot by the likes of Paolo Roversi. I hope she turns things around pretty fast.

Unclear whether this response is by a friend of the blogger or Ali's:

After I posted my warning to Ali Michael last week, a friend wrote back, challenging my thoughts. He writes:
"Think it would have killed me to read that and not say anything. I used to know a few people at Wallpaper back in the day, and trust me, when they shot fashion, it was better than the **** I see in Vogue and most other "mainstream' US mags.
Then there's this. My all time favorite quote. "Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening."
-Coco Chanel
Fashion is everywhere. It's a part of our lives. And Wallpaper proved that a while back. By doing that cover, she breaks out of a shell. Fashion isn't exclusive to French Vogue or Italian Vogue and certainly
not Purple. Fashion is wherever you want it to be. Or rather, wherever you allow it to be. And I think I like the idea of more freedom rather than less. I like her doing this cover. The mag appeals to people with style. Not just a desire to see dresses. That for me is far more fashionable. French Playboy? Wasn't always a nice place for edgy NY models."
[Blogger's response] I'll take that into respectful consideration, but when read "people with style" I cant help but think and ask: style according to whom? Isn't that subjective as well? After all, there are people who shop Bergdorf, others Bloomingdales, and yet others Target. The measuring stick of style, taste, and fashion come in different sizes. Mine is simply the ideal perfection, in the manner of fashion.

What's your opinion? For me it's hardly a fall from grace to work with Paola Kudacki, and Wallpaper is a respected, directional magazine. But the blogger raises a good point that models should consider the context of their work carefully, especially more racy photos. I just don't think Wallpaper in particular is a bad choice. The friend is correct that it appeals to a stylish audience, it's not Maxim or FHM by any means. As for the blogger's comment about the "ideal perfection in the manner of fashion", well, he sort of lost me there, lol.

i think her last editorial was great and personally i don't care who publishes them editorials as long as she keeps making them that good.

then whether it's a good career move or not frankly that's her to figure out.

I'm absolutely in love with the QVEST editorial, amazing models and they exactely knew how to emphasize their best features  Gorgeous portrait of Ali :o

Wallpaper is hardly a fall from grace and it's a nice pose. In fact I would say these are better than had she appeared stark naked in Purple. Apart from the nudity and the lack of any thing else in the photos I'm not sure what is artistic in the Purple Nudes.

You're right about context. Cindy Crawford lathered in foam in Allure is alluring (for want of a better word) but would be salacious in FHM

honestly the shots were not racy. and as people have stated before, it's not like she is posing in some men's magazine.

i think why it is hard for her fans seeing her doing work like that is because for the longest time we saw her as this little innocent girl with amazing skin and to-die- for eyebrows. she always did the same work and when she breaks out into something more adult, i think it surprised us. but i think it was a good choice for her. models pose nude all the time. and it's not like she is 16( even though at times she looks like it)

overall, ali is fabulous, regardless of the work she chooses to do.

I agree, honestly I think people just want to jump on her for any little thing she does. Of course all models are under that microscope, but I think with Ali people are a little bit more discerning because she is well-known by the media and I think one of the more "mainstream" models (well known by the Teen Vogue crowd)... kind of making her like a mini celebrity among your typical models partly because lots know more about her on a personal level than anything.
Of course, it's possible that many people who keep watch of her by recognition of her name through the media may not understand or interpret the artistic elements of fashion... I didn't see the Wallpaper shots as that shocking if you view it more on a psychological or even abstract manner, but of course - quoting what you are saying - it's out of the norm from what fans of Ali are used to seeing. Like I said before, I think many recognize her image from the pages of Teen Vogue and what-not. Well, I think a modeling career fixated within the image confinements of Teen Vogue doesn't last forever.
