After I posted my
warning to Ali Michael last week, a friend wrote back, challenging my thoughts. He writes:
"Think it would have killed me to read that and not say anything. I used to know a few people at Wallpaper back in the day, and trust me, when they shot fashion, it was better than the **** I see in Vogue and most other "mainstream' US mags.
Then there's this. My all time favorite quote. "Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening."
-Coco Chanel
Fashion is everywhere. It's a part of our lives. And Wallpaper proved that a while back. By doing that cover, she breaks out of a shell. Fashion isn't exclusive to French Vogue or Italian Vogue and certainly
not Purple. Fashion is wherever you want it to be. Or rather, wherever you allow it to be. And I think I like the idea of more freedom rather than less. I like her doing this cover. The mag appeals to people with style. Not just a desire to see dresses. That for me is far more fashionable. French Playboy? Wasn't always a nice place for edgy NY models.
"
[Blogger's response] I'll take that into respectful consideration, but when read "people with style" I cant help but think and ask: style according to whom? Isn't that subjective as well? After all, there are people who shop Bergdorf, others Bloomingdales, and yet others Target. The measuring stick of style, taste, and fashion come in different sizes. Mine is simply the ideal perfection, in the manner of fashion.
