Alicia Vikander

hv heard lots of negative opinions about the danish girl - heard it's an insulting portrayal of a transperson. not sure if i'll bother watching it. i thought she was good in ex machina but not amazing so given that it's all i've seen of her, i am yet to understand the overwhelming hype around her.

I saw her in both Ex Machina and The Danish Girl, and I have to admit her performance as Ava was okay (I guess because robots, or whatever she was, are one-dimensional things), but I thought her performance as Gerda was great. She was charismatic and strong, but vulnerable as well.

I feel so hipster saying this but there´s a lot of nuance in her performances (which I love), I think it sets her apart from her peers :)

Even if I didn't like the movie that much, I think she was really amazing in it.

Yeah, many trans people, particularly trans women, have spoken out about the casting of a cis man as a trans woman, as well as the inaccuracies of the film itself in portraying Lili.

I will see it purely because it's an Oscar nominee, but I expect it's not that great, and probably will be insulting to the community it claims to be allying with.

I adore her SAG gown. I didn't like it at first, but the texture is so unique and striking, that it has grown on me. Her Golden Globes gown though still looks to me like a fancy apron and nothing more.

She looks very beautiful in all the Danish Girl stills - the costumer did a wonderful job.

The casting of a cis as a trans woman makes sense, I guess. Hollywood is a business, first and foremost, so they were always going to cast someone whose name would help get financing and Redmayne having already worked with the director and having just won an Oscar fit the bill perfectly. And the film had been in in-development hell for ages, so they probably wanted to finally get it off the ground. The other option would've been to cast a female in the role like they originally planned (Nicole Kidman).

I wish Tomas Alfredson, who was originally attached, had directed it, though. He has a stronger vision than Tom Hooper and probably would've had a greater understanding of the material. Not to mention, he worked with Alicia back in Sweden years ago.

The dress looks lovely on her, gives me man from uncle vibes :)
The hair though... too pageanty, maybe?

The outfit at THR event isn't great, but the red dress at the luncheon is adorable. :flower:

Totally agreed, on all points! The bright, block colour is totally giving me flashbacks to Man from UNCLE - which is a great thing. And I just want to run a brush through the hair to break up the curls.

Otherwise, great look. Love her recent colour palette.
