Allure September 2018 : Bella Hadid by Daniel Jackson

I cannot hate on this, find the cover image perfect for both Allure and a September issue. Bella looks fantastic, very composed and downright beautiful here. Now this one might just be my favorite this month (after initially falling for Zendaya's cover of Marie Claire).

She looks so over it in the last shot lol. The close-ups are great though.

A Dior-sponsored advertorial turns out to be one of the best Allure cover shots for ages.

Pretty boring and uneventful editorial shots but a memorable and very good cover image here. Sometimes Daniel Jackson still delivers.

After one bad cover after another pretty much consistently. I have to ask what made them turn around? The editorial and cover is exactly what should be expected from a magazine focused on beauty.

I really just can't get over how incredibly beautiful she is. That face really IS one in a million - she's a perfect cover model. Yes, I know she basically has just the one expression ... but when the result turns out this good?! I can't complain.

Stunning cover and edit. She really excels at close-up beauty shots.

Flicking through this on zinio, at 102 pages, it's not a big issue (as usual) but the articles are Allure on form - a look back at the launch of Clinique's Black Honey and Dr Pepper Lip Smacker, the psychology behind how companies name lipsticks, a look at tooth jewellery, the evolution of lip fillers, the introduction of lip lifts, dental advances, the 25 best lipsticks of all time, and Andy Warhol's portrait of Liz Taylor.

In addition to Bella's cover story, the fashion/beauty edits are:

Loud Mouths - 8 pgs
Ph: Quentin Jones
Styled: Valentine Fillol-Cordier
Make-Up: Georgina Graham
Models: Olivia Anakwe, Saffron Vadher

Two Of A Kind - 8 pgs
Ph: Matteo Montanari
Celebrity: Anya Taylor-Joy

LOOOL That’s such a sweet and endearing endorsement. I really appreciate such honesty. It’s like saying my boyfriend is just the hottest man— but yes, he’s really kind of an airhead… (not that he is).

I just picked this up at the newsstand and it’s SUPER thin! I thought it might be a supplement or something because it doesn’t even say “September 2018” on it anywhere. So weird...

The condescension! Your poor man.

I'm more concerned about the thickness of Allure's spine, which is as thick as one of my many rejected short stories. I mean, shall we start a betting pool to see when they'll go bust?

You mean "go digital", where they can reduce themselves to being a small presence in a sea of online beauty content, a lot of it produced by 'amateurs' who can attract ten times the views that a Conde Nast supported site does.

I bet by the end of this year they go digital. There's an impending doom, I feel -like when SELF started doing the digital issues and the print issues got thinner and thinner.

To be fair to Allure, it's never produced issues on the same size and scale as other publications. I've been buying it since the year it launched, and I can't recall one ever reaching 300 pages.

Although I was buying it in the UK - a lot of the ads got left out of the export copies of Allure, so the page numbering would jump by four pages when you turned one page over.

I have a pile of Allures sitting on a high shelf at home, I must look to see what the average page count was, a few years back.
