Altuzarra F/W 12.13 New York

I agree with Spike, its important for designers to have some consistency, to be reliable for certain kinds of clothes in a way. It's not about being fixed in a single look, more so about developing signatures. It's important for both branding and sales. Maybe a customer isn't going to go to a designer for a specific piece (though I think all designers really do try to achieve that) but they might go to someone for their perspective or their sensibility.

Altuzarra does flip quite a bit, it will go from hard and futuristic to grunge, back to futuristic, and then to boho, and not in a way a designer with more defined aesthetics might explore those themes, more like someone who is not sure of what he wants to say. He clearly loves aggressive looking tailoring and straightforward body conscious dresses in the Tom Ford tradition, but maybe Ricardo Tisci does that kind of thing in a more interesting way.

I still don't know who Altuzurra is as designer, what inspires him, are what his competencies are. It's difficult when so much of his clothes makes you think of other designers' work (Tisci, Ford, Ghesquire). But my main issue is that his clothes always seem unresolved, a bit untidy. The proportions, details and fit are always off and strange. There's a lack of finesse in both the styling of the pieces and their construction. I do hope he figures it out though, it could be really great if he did.

Anyways, if someone told me this was Kanye West's new collection I wouldn't think twice.

it looks messy, no special identity. More over some pieces wanted to be sophisticated don't look good at, as if they didn't get enough time to finish it...
