Chicago Girl Amanda Murphy
By Amanda Frechette
Born and raised in the Windy City, 26-year-old Amanda Murphy is most notable for her exclusive booking with Prada in Milan and Proenza Schouler in New York for the fall 2013 shows. Murphy also grabbed the attention of designers who include Stella McCartney, Chanel, Lanvin, and Christina Dior. One thing is for sure: Her name was on everyone’s lips.

Interested in modeling from the very beginning, Amanda Murphy was told to look into agencies right when she launched her profession. She initially looked into Factor, a Chicago agency, and then it was off to New York to get booked by IMG, where she has been since 2009.

Murphy’s beautiful looks and a walk that could kill aren’t her only interesting features. At the beginning of her modeling career, she was taking online classes for radiology tech, and her medical career kept her modeling on the sidelines until her two years of hospital work were complete. Murphy still works at a clinic, which keeps her mind grounded.

Amazing runway experience and an academic: Is there anything this girl can’t do? Fortunately, her editorial portfolio continues to grow and add to her success. In 2012, Amanda Murphy was featured in two editorials for Interview magazine. More recently, she was photographed for a spread in Dazed and Confused called “Most Wanted” and in W for a spread called “The Man Who Loves Women,” which was a feature on Lanvin designer Albert Elbaz. Not only did she land between the pages of American Vogue, but she was also shot for the cover of Vogue Italia.

In whatever free time Amanda Murphy has, she enjoys spending time with her horse name Jessie, and she recently discovered her love for boxing classes.

But we all know a rising model like Murphy won’t have much free time as her success continues to expand. She was just photographed for the 2014 lookbook of Oscar de la Renta and she walked for J.W. Anderson’s Versus debut. Amanda Murphy was also featured in the Prada men’s spring/summer 2014 and women’s resort 2014 shows. We look forward to seeing what she’ll be up to this fall.
