Amber Heard

Carey Mulligan, on Amber Heard:

"I walked into a room with Amber Heard last week and I almost fell over. I couldn’t look her in the eye. She’s almost blinding. She’s so beautiful."

She's so lovely! and she's always very 50's early 60's even when she's not trying to be in like jeans and a tshirt! Love it!

Quite like her earrings above but if they were intended to contrast with the rest of her look its just not working here. Bad shoe choice as well.

^I agree. I don't like the shoes at all.
From the ankles up she looks great though.

Considering the fact that December is a decidedly festive time of year filled with holiday soirees galore, we decided to focus this month's Style Spotlight on a stylish femme who knows how to construct memorable ensembles for fancy occasions: Amber Heard! The up-and-coming actress-she's currently starring alongside Johnny Depp in the Rum Diary and was amazing on the short-lived show The Playboy Club-has been consistently embraced by the fashion community for her innate ability to pull off retro glam looks in a modern way. From sultry gowns with thigh-high slits to sleek cocktail numbers, it's obvious this blond bombshell is no novice when it comes to on-point evening attire, which is why we suggest keeping today's selection of brilliant style choices in mind when creating your own party ensembles this season.

If there's one thing we've learned from examining Heard's most recent red carpet selections, it's that the actress isn't one to shy away from baring some skin via a thigh-high slit. At the amfAR Inspiration Gala in New York earlier this summer she turned up in a vintage cream silk top paired with a black, leg-revealing skirt (also vintage), white Christian Louboutin peep-toe heels, and Cartier jewelry (top row, left). The resulting look is subtly sexy, but makes a major statement, just like our style subject! Heard showed off her killer gams once again at the Los Angeles premiere of Rum Diary a few months ago, only this time she opted for a vibrant red Elie Saab strapless gown from the Resort 12 collection (bottom row, left). In addition to the deeply romantic frock, we like that she went with a sleek updo and very minimal accessories, which gave her evening look a glamorous finish. We'd also like to point out that Heard's affinity for leg-baring pieces extends to her day-to-day style choices too! While running errands in Los Angeles early last month (far left), our style subject was photographed wearing a white button-up blouse with a black, semi-sheer skirt with lace applique from Topshop and Salvatore Ferragamo's Varina Ballet Flats ($395, available here in Black Patent). The combination of feminine accents plus the sultry spirit of the see-through skirt adds up to one well-balanced and incredibly stylish ensemble.

While we're crazy for Heard's sensual, after-hours picks, she looks equally radiant in more understated silhouettes as well, as evidenced by the ensemble she put together for a Vanity Fair dinner held in Los Angeles a few months ago (bottom row, right). Heard caught our attention in a white ruffle-detailed Emporio Armani Dress ($595, 646.613.8099), which she paired with a vintage Giorgio Armani clutch and satin gold Emporio Armani Heels ($595, 646.613.8099) for a flawless take on the minimalist look! To give you a slightly dressier, more colorful example, later that month Heard impressed yet again in a lustrous, two-tone Roksanda Ilincic gown from the S/S 10 collection at the Film Awards Gala held in Beverly Hills (top row, right). The sleek, floor-grazing silhouette hugs her flawless curves perfectly, plus we applaud her side-swept hair, which further accentuates the timeless, old Hollywood feel of her evening ensemble.

If you'd like to incorporate some of Heard's bombshell panache into your wardrobe this season, we have plenty of suggestions. First things first: dresses with a sultry twist are an imperative part of Heard's red carpet attire, so we'd like to direct you to Faviana Couture's Chiffon Strapless Evening Dress ($258), which has a striking resemblance to our style subject's Elie Saab pick, thanks to its bright red hue and very high slit. If you fancy the bold color minus the leg-revealing cut, you can always try Laundry by Shelli Segal's Strapless Gown ($275) for your upcoming holiday parties. Speaking of festive soirees, if you'd like to wear something a little more cocktail appropriate, we love the silver metallic shimmer of Tahari by Arther S. Levine's Side Ruffle Metallic Sheath Dress ($128) and the feminine accents on French Connection's Bow Shoulder Shift Dress ($127), both of which are worthy alternatives to Heard's sleek Emporio Armani pick.

Want to try some separates instead a full-on gown? We're crazy about the luxe look of Amanda Wakeley's Silk Satin Maxi Skirt ($347.50) and Mason's Asymmetrical Maxi Skirt ($575), and encourage you to team either option with a blouse in a contrasting color, like Oasis' Silk Ruffle Blouse ($100) or Zara's Blouse with Pocket ($80) a la for a head turning result! For those of you who prefer a more sober color scheme, we recommend picking up Vince's Satin Tank ($195) and pairing it with Karen Kane's Front-Slit Skirt ($79), which hits just below the knee, or Bec & Bridge's Eva Maxi Skirt ($187) if you're seeking a more form-fitting, floor-length option.

Finally, creating Heard's off-duty ensemble is a cinch, all you need is a semi-sheer skirt-Joie's Mahina Belted Skirt ($328) and Topshop's Corset Panal Belted Midi Skirt ($120) are two of our favorites-a white button-up, like Zara's Basic Shirt ($60). Simply add a cute cardi, such as ASOS' Boucle Cardigan with Contrast Trim ($61), and you'll be well on your way to having a similarly demure-meets-darling outfit! Now that you have all of the essentials at your fingertips, incorporating some of Heard's retro glamour into your own party-perfect look should be a cinch!-Jessica Baker

I came here trying to figure out who she is, due to seeing her name pop up again and again recently. I have to say, I'm not understanding the interest. She looks like any standard-pretty blond girl from a university somewhere like Georgia, and all her clothes are wearing her. Thought JGL would have more interesting taste...
