Day in the Life of a Fashion Week Model
Late night fittings, back-to-back shows and hours in a stylist's chair fill a model's day during New York Fashion Week. We followed Andie Arthur for a look at what a model's day is really like.

Photos by Tiffany Hagler Geard

- Leaving her first show at the tents at Lincoln Center, Andie Arthur heads downtown to Indochine for the DKNY show. The 17-year-old Ford model from Picayune, Mississippi has a packed schedule with back-to-back shows.

- Rushing backstage, Andie talks to the head stylist and goes to get her hair washed. This is the fourth season that she is walking in the DKNY show. "Fashion week is the most hectic thing I've ever done. Most of the time in running from one show to the next," she said.

- Having just met David Beckham at the show before, Andie gushes to her friends and shows them the photo: "It was amazing! I was talking to my friends about how much I wanted a photo with him and his PR girl over heard me. She asked me if I wanted a photo and then went to the back to get him! He was so nice."

- The girls get their hair washed in the backstage bathrooms to change styles from the previous show.

- Andie checks her phone while two stylists dry her hair: "I am always on my phone. Getting updates from my agent, on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and keeping in touch with friends."

- DKNY kept the look fresh with neutral tones that work from day to night: "A natural look is very popular for spring and for New York. Shows in Europe usually have more drastic makeup and hair looks," she said.

- One makeup artist applies foundation to her face while another looks on. They applied Maybelline's Dream Lumi Touch to her skin.

- Three coats of Mega Plush Mascara were applied to Andie's eyelashes. Depending on the look, makeup can take up to an hour, "A fresh face can take about 30 minutes, but a detailed eye or lip can take around and hour."

- After two hours of prep, her makeup and hair are ready to go.

- Andie checks her order in the lineup to see where she is placed.

- Before the show, photographers shoot candids of all the models' looks.

- With a few minutes of down time, the girls take pictures and check their phones.

- Andie puts her first look on: a yellow DKNY swimsuit. Makeup artists use lotion to moisturize her skin and give it a healthy glow.

- Andie's first look was a bright yellow bathing suit complete with sky-high platforms: "I am very used to walking in high heels by now. Those definitely were not the highest shoes I've had to go down the runway in."

- She quickly changed and walked down the runway in her second look, a stunning floor-length white dress.

- After leaving the show, Andie checks her phone on the way to her mom's car, parked nearby.

- Andie finds the car and heads to her next show with her mom: "Because we now live in New Jersey she drives into the city and takes me to castings and shows. I am so thankful to have her with me."

Let's hope she will! Btw I loved reading that "Day in a life of a Fashion Week Model" article. I didn't know her mom was accompanying and even driving her to the shows. How cool ^_^
