Androgyny In Fashion And Models

^^ I agree. Androgyny to me is - not uncertainty, but something like it - ambiguity about gender. Not being quite sure.

Jay Dezelic's designs seem like they're bordering more on guys-in-girls'-clothing than androgyny. Which doesn't mean I don't like them, I think they're awesome. ^_^

Although I don't think this set succeeds, I must say it's cool because it's bold. If you scan through this thread, there is very much skinny, very feminine girls with masculine suits etc. I like the idea of femine clothes on, if not macho then at least more masculine boys. I think that to do this you need the other kind of masculine man than used above. If you think of the masculine man you got two types (more, really, but for this example, well... just go with it ) - the metropolian masculine business-man - kind of like Patrick Bateman just not psychotic :P Then you have the second type of masculine man, the more alpha-male barbaric male, abit wild, long hair, you get the picture.

If you are going to make feminine-inspired clothing for men (which is a great idea! YSL woman-suit just the other way around) then you should get the proper models, this idea has sooooo much potential. Best of luck :flower:

oops. forgot to mention image credits: all from jdez.com

Not meant to be a self promotion. Just thought that the images fit the topic.

Anyway, I think androgyny can be looked at in two ways. 1.) androgynous clothing on a masculine of feminine body type, or 2.) the entire look is androgynous. Women have been dressing in androgynous apparel for many years as jeans were once considered only men's work wear. - now a fashion staple for both feminine and masculine women.

I think that the reverse can also be true (eventually) where typically feminine styles can be sold to men. After all, men were wearing skirts only a couple hundred years ago.

My current idea is to show the styles in a not so macho, but also not so feminine genre. Most of my designs are unisex. I am sure that I will be fumbling around allot before I figure out the best way to present these ideas

We apretiate it! And a discussion is always welcome too
It would be interesting to see some of the same garments on both a male and a female!! :flower:

tha guy up there from facehunter, love his style. for a sec i thought it was a girl!
the freaky thing is...i have a blazer just like his, same tweed, same color even same buttons and pocket style! but i ruined mine so it looks weird now. and the other freaky thing is...i thought up wearing giant earrings on the corner of each collar instead of a proper button last month and so weird seeing this guy here doing the same thing!
woahhh
actually...another freaky thing is...for a second i thought he was this girl i used to have a crush on, like...there is a faint faint resemblence...

at first i cant believe it it's rachel mcadams! my impression of her was this retro glam blonde girl next door look and this just surprised me in a really good way! i think she pulled off the androgynous dominatrix look really well, she seriously looks like a model in these pictures instead of a celebrity

Probably the same thing he thought about when he made his newest ad campain. There he also shows dresses on a guy, and it looks really good. Anybody knows if it's online anywhere?

^look in cole mohr's thread, the ad you are talking about is there.

yea, i remember seeing cole mohr in a dress somewhere, it actually looked kinda nice haha but not on the asian guy up there

this, to me, doesn't seem like androgyny. this is more like cross-dressing imo.

on that note- woth the past two males in just dresses. I have to agree.....that's how I feel as well....

it isnt androgynous but pretty funny to look at

I agree..androgyny is about gender ambiguity, a look (outfit and model) that could be either male or female rather than male-in-female-clothes or female-in-male-clothes.

it really tests a model
it's very rare that a model can pull it off tastefully and with aesthetic flair
but when a model does, it does make for quite an interesting concept
