Androgyny In Fashion And Models

I don't like guys to look too feminine. I think a good balance of the two is better.

Masculine or feminine are too extreme on their own.

I think mixing masculine pieces with feminine pieces, can look edgy and sexy without going too far with it.

Isn't this the idea of androgyny? to focus more on human identity rather the sexual identity? The androgynous look to me seems to imply an ambivalence to extreme masculine or feminine demeanor, but rather to innocuously blend elements of traditionally sexist influences in playful ways.

^Yes, the way I understand it androgyny is to look asexual, rather than to look like the opposite gender. I definitely agree about the statement about focusing on human identity rather than sexual identity.

I find that the neo-hippie look is somewhat androgynous as it also seems to have less emphasis on the aspects of feminism or masculinity traits as a style attribute.

I have been following this thread because I am attempting to develop a unique style for a new unisex clothing line and haven't really been able to completely define it yet. (You can see some of my recent work at modelmayham.com/JayDezelic).

To me, androgyny has a lot of similarities to the anti-establishment trends of the 60's in some ways.

I like to focus on both my identities. I enjoy wearing what expresses my personality but also celebrating my womanhood. I am proud to be a woman and am not embarrassed to show it. When I wear a pant suit, I'm a woman. When I wear a dress and heels, I'm a woman. I have feminine features and a feminine body.

You can be feminine and masculine, without people trying to guess what you are.

It seems to me that an androgynous style would lack an overt expression of "womanhood" or "manhood" and would not necessarily accentuate masculine or feminine features but rather celebrate the idea of just being.

the anna ed is rather adorable actually. she makes a really handsome boy

All in all, I think Suvi's face is kind of androgynous. Probably because of her jawline^_^

Wearing a pantsuit doesn't automatically make you androgynous. There is nothing wrong with celebrating your womanness (in fact, more power to you :flower:) but androgyny isn't a celebration of gender.

I know but I was just trying to go with something more masculine, rather than trying to explain a whole outfit.

That is why I can't do androgyny. I love corsets, red lipstick and heels too much. Though I do like a nice pair of rugged boots.

Wow, I love Freja and Martin! He reminds me of Cindy Crawford's little boy but older. It's interesting to see him with blonde hair as well.
