Ann-Sofie Back S/S 08 London

I think it was to be expected people would find Margiela references in this collection, after all they do tend to convey similar aesthetics.

Love it over all, just a breezy/slightly melancholic palette and of course, the structure, the seriously awesome structure.

welll,it may be predictable but margiela is perhaps the most influential designer(yet somehow also considerably underrated)of our era. and ann-sofie is also a former assistant to monsieur margiela,so no surprise they share some aesthetical similarities.....most do actually.

you're welcome everybody!

such a great collection. it's so nice to her getting back on track again....but doing something that's a bit easier.

I attended her fall show earlier this year and i didnt think much of it, however this is quite special!

The Designer: Swedish born avant-garde designer Ann-Sofie Back graduated from Central St Martin’s in 1998 and launched her own label in October 2001. After showing in Paris, Back chose London Fashion Week to show her collections. For A/W05 she launched a second collection called Back which takes elements from the main collection and interprets them into more accessible design and price points. Back has enjoyed rapid commercial and critical success, now selling to over 100 stores globally. This season she will show both collections together on the catwalk at LFW.

The Collections: She is inspired by normality and the mundane; failed glamour and the accidental embarrassments of dressing fascinate her, while slick "design concepts’ do not. This results in interesting witty pieces that subvert femininity, giving the impression they just happened without contrivance.

Up until two seasons ago she had bravely shown her collections on real women, since then she has broken with her tradition in favour of professional models. She feels this has resulted in her clothes being better understood and some prestigious new stockists have followed.

News: She has just been short-listed for the Swiss Textiles Award. The candidates will show in November 2008 when a winner will be chosen.

Instant View: Browns Focus and Selfridges in London; Opening Ceremony in New York; Mameg in LA; Park in Vienna; Frip in Italy; Shine in Hong Kong; SPR+ in Amsterdam; MidWest and Points de Suspension in Tokyo

I like it. I'm not overly excited, but I like the little bits of pink (and I'm really not a pink person).

SE, is your first post Ann Sofie??.

thanks for posting, scott!, this is the same collection she showed last month in Copenhagen, right?.. beautiful shapes, I'd dare to say she's not just getting back on track but this is quite possibly the best we've seen of her. I hope I'm not jumping too far with my excitment but it seems like she finally found a neutral ground between her very raw experimental side and the commercial aspects of clothing. I love this.

Aaaaaaah! My brain hiccup'd - you are right that is from the Paul Smith Women show, MP! Please delete my stupidity and accept my apology for the make-work! :hardhead:

I like it a lot better than her previous collections (especially that dreadful SS07 one), but I don't know... Maybe I'm just too ignorant to appreciate her work, but I never really understood what people find so interesting about her?

I never thought I would say this, but I really like the shoulder pads - the silhouettes are great. !

very nice. love the giant discs/sequins.. and it's only with grey that i can tolerate that powder pink. the reinforced knees in post 25...

OOO I like this, it looks very cool. The white dress with the slit is sexy. It has that realy serious theme to it. Best from London I think.

Love the sequins---looks like light reflecting on the top, capelet, and dress---but then you can see that it is the white stripes that causes that illusion---fantastic!
