Apple's iPhone

I know I posted earlier on this page saying that I'd wait to get an iPhone until they went down and price (and most likely would have more memory then too), but I don't think I can resist them any longer! I'll be buying my iPhone either tonight or tomorrow, after doing tons of research on them. The good things I hear about them from owners far outnumber the bad!

I can't wait! :D Anyone else own one (or are thinking of buying one)?

Me! im certainly buying one, but i have to wait until it arrives in my country

Bought the 4GB one today, but decided after I left the store that I should get the 8GB. It's only $100 more, why not? So I'm going back for one tonight, hopefully they'll still have one in stock!

I would love to get one but there is no way I can switch to Cingular...
it doesn't work where I live! I had it once and nearly went mad...
you would have to walk down the block to order a pizza!

Will it always be exclusive to Cingular/ATT?

EDIT- I just read a few pages back and changed my mind!!!

to be honest I dont like it. Im probably one of the few who dont own any form of Ipod - through choice - i prefer a Samsung mp3 or its cool looking equivalent. Im not fond of their apple computers although the laptops are quite cute. So its no surprise that I wont be rushing out for the phone. ive seen it and I dont find it attractive. yeah it has all the features under the sun, yet it doesnt make me want to buy it.
I dont really know why - it just doesnt appeal - like all the Apple 'it' things! I'll stick to my Blackberry!
Could someone tell me what the pull of the iphone - and ipods - is? My friends have ipods and are all gushing about the phone but when i asked them why its so important that they get it, they jst said its cool, or it has so and so features or it does whatever. They didnt actaully relate it to themselves. Could you just fill me in - im quite intrigued as to why im immune to all this hype!

So I got the 8GB one last night, and I'm in love! Let me tell you why I love this little slice of Apple heaven:

1. The design. No one but Apple designs products that are so straightforward, sleek, and designed for convenience and function as well as style. Every feature is well thought out, and there are no useless features that are never going to be used.

2. The ease (and affordability) of browsing the web and sending email. I was already an AT&T/Cingular customer, and I only pay $20 extra a month for 200 text messages and unlimited internet and email. If there's not a WiFi signal where you are, as long as you get service where you are, you can go on the internet using EDGE. It's a little slower, but not too bad (at least in my area).

3. You can set up your phone really easily using iTunes, which is soo much better than dealing with AT&T.

4. It's a phone, iPod, the internet, and a 2 megapixel camera. That basically saves a lot of space in my purse, and school bag for that matter!

5. Apple is a really great company to deal with, should you have any questions or problems with your products. Their customer service people are really great, and I love the fact that you can take any Apple product into their store and have a tech person help you right then and there with it!

6. I love that I now have quick access to the weather and maps. As a person who travels a lot, this is very helpful.

There are more reasons why I love my iPhone and Apple in general, but these are just a few for now. ^_^

You are just like me, litchickuk. I find iPods iEverything to be overhyped, and there are better things out there with just as many--if not more--features.

I purposely avoid that stuff since especially in my age group I don't don't want to be yet another follower. Plus, I don't like iTunes and I have yet to hear a reason to pick Apple over other brands that extends beyond "cooler"

Besides, these phones are exclusively AT&T/Cingular so you have to switch if you aren't already with them. I prefer my phones to be unlocked so I can travel with ease and just change the SIM card when I'm in another country instead of having ridiculous roaming charges waiting for me back home.

Also, I'm not too keen on the completely touch screen aspect. After all, stuff happens. I live in Miami, and I was innocently doing my homework on the steps at school when suddenly I went to get my calculator only to find that it overheated from the heat of the sun and being in my bag and so the screen cracked and was leaking that LCD stuff. Plus, two of my friends have had bad luck with the screens of their cell phones just dying on them.

Needless to say, I'm wary of touch screens. If it dies that would be a hassle to replace phones since then they'll have to fix it or replace it-and if they replace I lose all my data.

In any case, I would rather have a smartphone with Windows. The document viewer on my friend's phone was a lifesaver for a tiny bit of extra cramming during finals. And it played mp3's, took pictures, had an option of touchscreen or a mini pull-out qwerty keyboard, had WiFi and EDGE, and all that other jazz. And it was older model.

The iPhone wins in GB so far though since with those other smartphones, you have to track down memory cards.

When they get a 100GB model iPhone, then I'll really be interested even if it is a touchscreen! Besides, they would probably have a firmware hack or large downloadable software database or something.

But enjoy your phones everyone.

I can understand why people wouldn't buy Apple products because they think they will be "following the trend" or just being another one of the masses. But, Apple products are so popular because, well, they are really good. I used PCs my whole life up until a year ago, when I bought a MacBook Pro. My family's always used PCs, and each of them have always had problems. We've probably gone through 7 computers in 10 years. These have not been cheap PCs either!

Now I will never go back. I have a MacBook, 20GB iPod, and iPhone now, and I am a Mac girl for life now. Their products have never given me a reason to be upset. I've had no problems.

Only 8GB, at that price. Who are they trying to kid. They already have the technology for larger disk capacity...now we just have to wait.

1st gens are the worst to get. Apple has to fix the bugs. It's better to wait for newer models so you get what you pay for.

^exactly. that's why im probably holding on. that and the fact that its so fkin expensive.

i'd rather wait.

^^ ditto on the above two comments.

Plus I already heard there was some sort of slight recall?? I dunno, maybe it was all rumors. I'll probably either not buy it, or wait a year. But it is a cool phone.. I was playing with it in the apple store for like an hour... going on tFS .. haha...

The only thing I didn't like about it is that the keyboard to type is very small! Kinda annoying!

iphone is the neatest phone ever invented! I have NO regrets buying one in 8 GB. I love love love it! No problems w/ mine, so far. I'm one happy apple customer :).

well well well, it was about time....... :innocent:

SAN FRANCISCO - The teenage hacker who managed to unlock the iPhone so that it can be used with cellular networks other than AT&T will be trading his reworked gadget for a new car.

George Hotz, of Glen Rock, N.J., said he had reached the deal with CertiCell, a Louisville, Ky.-based mobile phone repair company.

Hotz posted on his blog that he traded his modified iPhone for "a sweet Nissan 350Z and 3 8GB iPhones."

"This has been a great end to a great summer," Hotz wrote.

The 17-year-old Hotz said he will be sending the three new iPhones to the three online collaborators who helped him divorce Apple Inc's popular product from AT&T's network. The job took 500 hours, or about 8 hours a day since the iPhone's June 29 launch.

Hotz made the deal with Terry Daidone, co-founder of CertiCell, who also promised the teen a paid consulting job.

"We do not have any plans on the table right now to commercialize Mr. Hotz' discovery," Daidone said in a statement.

I compared the Blackberry Pearl vs the iPhone for several weeks. I finally broke down and got the iPhone. It outweighed the Pearl for me.

I couldnt be happier. I just love the damn thing so much.

i tried to love it. i'm a huge apple fan. owning a macbook pro and video ipod, i really wanted an iphone too. i went to the apple store frequently to play with the iphone. i just found typing so difficult. i ended up getting a blackberry curve. i'll wait for the next generation.
