Baby Phat S/S 09 New York

^Because she's someone who mixes the words fabulous and tacky. She thinks shes fabulous but is just tacky and narcissistic.

some are cute, but it also depends of the selection of models they use. those models just make the clothes look really cheap!

Baby Phat used to cast great models like Natasha Poly, Liya K, Isabeli Fontana, Caroline T, Alek Wek, Carmen Kass...etc, I wonder what happened?

No offense, but I don't agree this this statement. I usually watch random fashion shows from fashion TV during their global fashion week (or something, doesn't really pay attention because I only watch FTV when I am eating on the dinner table), and usually I don't even know the designers name, their models etc but I can see which I like and which I don't like. ^_^

This collection is better than her previous ones IMHO (less tacky). And yeah, definitely not inspiring because you can get the same look by going to your department stores right away, but that's where Baby Phat target market is. So they are doing pretty good for their target market. :flower:

In general, nobody is claiming Baby Phat to be haute couture. Yes, Kimora's line is targeted to a certain buyer, just like many other designers were during New York's Fashion week. What I don't get is how many degraded her line when the likes of (for example) Nicole Miller and DKNY was not that impressive this season yet given praise.

^ It's completely subjective. You might not have seen anything good in those collections, but others might have. Besides, it's not like Nicole Miller or DKNY are names that would cause devout praise by the masses regardless of what they show....

I don't get why there's a belief that people only dislike this because it has the words Baby Phat on the tag. It is poorly made, and nothing too special design-wise, so if a majority of people call it out for being such why assume it's just because of the designer?

crow watcher, i get what you are trying to say and i agree, i think people will have a biased opinion on Baby Phat from the beginning because well... its Baby Phat.

but from seeing all her other previous collections and seeing this collection, i would have to say, she could have done much better.

Well, i wasn't immediatley disgusted. I guess thats something.

If you took some of the pieces out of context (belt in pic 6, dress in pic 9, headwrap on Ariel, top on Wakeema in first post) it could possibly work in editorial styling (you'd need an Enninful or Coddington to make it work though :D)

This was better than I had expected.
It's not like I'm jumping up and down in my seat, but I thought this would be way more tacky. But I got annyoed at all the different looks, suddenly there was a 70s inspired look with the flared jeans and vest, then there was fringe (I know that could be 70s) but it made me think of indians, then the black thing and the flowers. Maybe I should look at the whole collection in it's real context, and see if get it better then.

wow, i'm blown away! not by how good the clothes actually are, but by how good the clothes are for BABY PHAT. this is definitely a step up from the usual crap!

Well, call me cheap and tacky, but I like this. It`s not high fashion, of course, but looks very hmm--wearable, can you say it like that?? I tend to look the real high fashion and these more affordable collections from different point of view. I rarely would wear anything from, let`s say Prada or D&G, but I admire their creative work and athmosphere in shows. Then when I see something like H&M or BP I judge it differently. Hah, this hardly makes any sense to anyone but me.
