Versace was hideously tacky in a fairly well-made, well-cut, slightly sardonic way...

I agree, there is just no way in hell that Baby Phat could ever compare to Versace........even at it's worst Versace was still quality.

Darling, if Miuccia sent her recycling bin down the runway, no one would say anything and Club Monaco will knock them off in a variety of Fall colors.

Yes, you're right, the majority of us are just THAT mindless, we don't actually have a reason to dislike Kimora's "designs" we just do because we are totally biased against "Urban" labels and worship the ground that "establishment" designers tred their expensively soled feet on no matter what.........

Geez, am I the only one sick of defending myself in this debate or have others who agree with me gotten tired of it too?

That's just tacky but very colourful. I can't say if I'd wear some of her items ..perhaps not..but for pageants or 'just showing off' , it's excellent.

Funny, I was going to post something like that but decided not to bother.

Mindless sheep think alike :innocent:

Imo, the Baby Phat line is tacky plain and simple. If any other designer were to put out cheesy clothes like this they would be criticized as well. I seem to remember all of the flack Mr. Galliano got over the homeless collection... :ninja:

Not to mention his last ready-to-wear collection......

John Galliano can have a bad collection and recover, at the end of the day he's still John Galliano; and 90% of the time we're going to pretend to "get it".

The Baby Phat runway clothing isn't even massed produced. For the most part, the show is a publicity event for the brand (the brand being what you find in the department stores).

I don't know about you, but I don't pretend to get anything......for instance, I don't get why Kimora is even shown in the same 50 mile radius as the people who show in Bryant Park.

That was sarcasm, in response to the suggestion that even though we don't like what Kimora does, we'd praise it if it came from another house and then you saying you were gonna post something similar to my response.......'

Back on topic, what's so funny LolitaLuxe?

Why the constant focus about the joke that is Baby Phat and how Sean John is completely ruining 5th Avenue. Um, 5th avenue is now dominated with flagships for pedestrian mall brands...in fact Abercrombie is opening up smack dab in prime 5th ave...in the Fendi bldg at the end of the year and there is no constant outcry....guess Puffy should head up to 125thst???

Exactly what is wrong with Puffy or Russell using their money to finance their lines...God knows nobody else will......and not just because their designs may suck. There are plenty of lines showing this week that equally deserve these comments, yet you never see it.....People here wondering why they are allowed to step foot in the ever so hallowed tents and how dare she even be allowed near the park...who died and left you the arbiter of good fashion taste?, Many also get tired of this lumping of urbanwear (which I don't even particularly like myself, but can understand its market appeal)as the greatest tragedy to hit the fashion world since women began to wear pants en masse.

Most runway fashions don't make it into the stores...correct? Many runway shows are a bad joke, no??? What exactly has Kimora done that is so egregious here? Use the runway for publicity......as opposed to others who do what, charitable works..display real and acceptable fashion....?????

Ok this stuff looks better than usual. But damn did you see the presidentail add thing when she is getting of the plane? To me it summed it up all hype no substance which is many here are trying to say about Mrs. Lee. That sh*t looked so cheap I actually did laugh. I know I remember her first runway show and they had Andre LT, hyping why she is so important. I wanted to punch Andre in the mouth. This a long way from that show, I give her credit, but she has no vision. I would be more than happy to support her creative vision if she had one.

Also to build on Theory's point. I actually do not mind everybody that buys their way into tents. America is built on money not artistic virtue unfortunatly. If I had money I would too.

If Puffy, Russell and Kimora actually had any knowledge of design and fashion whatsover, mabye they wouldn't be a fashionista's punch-line. I think, and I could be wrong, that the main issue people on this board have with them is that they didn't do anything to earn their wings so to speak. They didn't attend design school, they didn't work under another designer before heading out on their own, they used money and nothing more to get where they are and I for one cannot condone or respect that.

As for your question about runway pieces winding up in stores, there are two instances when things shown on the runway aren't sold on the boutique racks. The first is if the piece involves so much work and detail that the price becomes something close to what one would pay for couture, like some of the things Alexander McQueen does and the other is if the piece is so extreme that it appeals to a very small group of people and it would be a waste to mass produce items that wont sell, Galliano is a prime example of this. In both cases, the items can be special ordered for the customer.

But in the case of what Kimora is showing, the pieces are neither, there isn't extensive technique and it's not extreme and avant garde so there really is no reason that those pieces can't be in stores which is why people may come to the conclusion that her shows are merely for publicity.

Hope I could be of some help answering your questions :flower:

i liked the makeup they used.. the collection itself isnt so bad, but nothing special about it. a bit try hard maybe.

Theory, I believe there was a bit of discussion about Abercrombie moving to 5th Avenue. I personally think it's atrociuos, but whatever.

My problem with Kimora and Baby Phat is that it's soooo overhyped and soooo wack. I watched the show with commentary by Michaela Davis (?) formerly of Honey and she just praised this collection like it was the second coming. Now I watched the same show and didn't see anything to write home about.

In regards to Puff, I appreciate his business acumen (to an extent). A friend of mine just bought a Sean John leather iPod case which was impressive. I just want Sean John, the man, to take a seat. And while he's at it he can take Kimora with him.

That's what I think, too.

Theory, this really isn't about color, and I think I made that point clear in the Sean John thread. As I said before, I equally despise Kimora and J.Lo and Gwen and any other celebrity who just decided that they will make garbage for their own amusement and it will sell like hot cakes. You know very well that Kimora's runway looks won't make it to stores not because they are not wearable, like those of Galliano, but because they are not sellable. What will sell are the tacky tshirts, logo-ridden bags, and sneakers. That is why I called the runway show a joke. Why do a runway show when you design cheap clothes, not fashion? You don't see AnF or Express do a runway show, right?

I understand that in a country that is full of racism one can't help but get a knee-jerk reaction at some comments that are aimed at someone who happens to be of a certain race (I'm not talking just black here, any race) - I am sure I am guilty of that myself (being an immigrant and all). :flower:

P.S. Actually, almost everything goes from runway to stores by designers that I follow (except some far fetched Raf Simons' pieces).
