Bag, Borrow, or Steal

i think i had heard about it in instyle magazine, what kind of bags do they have? i'll have to check it out :)

I checked out there bags and their selection wasn't that great. I have seen a site witht he same concept that had a pretty good selection though, if you look back in this forum yu may be able to find it.

i saw this a long time ago...at first i thought it was kinda a good idea, but then i started thinking about it, it seems to almost cheapen the whole effect of luxury bags IMO. i think a nice handbag is something you should earn and work towards, because then its like a "good job" token, and you value it more. i myself have a limited income, but i'd rather save up for a nice bag, than lease one off of some site. and what happens if they get damaged or something...i dunno, it just doesn't leave a good taste in my mouth...they had it on the tyra banks show a few days ago...and i was kinda surprised she'd promote it. there was some girl on there that had basically charged $12,000 on her mom's credit cards for designer handbags, and the whole time her mom thought the money was going towards her education. she said she lived on ramen noodles just to save more money to buy handbags. and surprisingly, rather than have tyra get a therapist on there to help this chick with her obvious money-mismanagment, tyra gave this chick a subscription to the bag-borrow-or steal for a year. and to top it all off, the girl was an economics major!

I didn't think they had a very good selection. When I read about them (I think it was in Time magazine) I thought they'd have the really obscure and expensive bags.

i think someone brought up this site (or something similar they had in the uk) and i looked at them briefly - i agree with most of the sentiments so far - the bags aren't really that great in the lower prices and you'd have to spend something like $250 extra (per bag, I think) for the higher end bags in addition to the "dues"... you're still "renting" and not getting anything for it in the end

Its an interesting concept but I doubt its something I'd try. Much rather save up and purchase a bag than borrow something. If there is a bag that I really love I wouldn't want to send it back to some service. It would be a little torturous to have to give back something I adore. There's just something nice about buying a bag and having it for your own, its special and I doubt i'd want to just rent.

I agree with jun that it does seem to cheapen the effect of luxury bags. I also dont like the idea of spending all the money and having nothing at the end. I think I'd rather save it up and get a really nice bag that will last a while, which you would really treasure and appreciate.

Personally I would never try it out...I like to own my bags, and as some have commented that its something that you earn some type of token...I agree although the concept may seem somewhat appealing to others but no to me...

I looked at it, but it seems like a lot of money to not have anything in the end. If you buy a nice bag and get tired of it, you can always sell it on eBay later.

I read something recently in the UK papers about a company that does this - not sure if it is this exact one or not - that were being sued by Gucci and some other makers for renting out fakes rather than the real thing...

I wish it were that great! Unfortunately, for the type of bags I'm interested in, I'd be paying such exorbitant monthly rates that I might as well save up and buy a bag to own myself. :D

That's right! It is not really worth it...

I'm at school right now so I cant check out the site, but I saw it a while ago before and if I remember correctly they didn't seem to have any bags I was really intrested in. I also dont really like paying so much and then not having anything at the end, but it oculd be good for people who tire of bags quickly. It also may be good if anyone is looking for a bad but can't afford it, cant you buy out a bag for under retail after you rent it?

wonder what they do with all the used and returned bags that have make--up stains and smoke odors :D hahahahahah. its an icky concept!

I bet they have a good cleaning system. They charge the person for the smoke smell and then they have a good cleaning process that makes it smell minty fresh for the next gal (Well in this case "new leather fresh", I bet they have a "new leather smell" spray or something....) anyways, it's kinda like renting cars, except you really don't have to worry about "under the hood" since with renting bags everything that counts can be seen. You never know where that bag has been before. But if you can't tell, do you really need to know?

Seems like those bags might be able to tell some juicy secrets though

ewwwwwwwww yuck! i can just imagine prositutes renting nasty multicolored LV's and versace bags....

I don't think this is worth it at all. For the price of membership (depending on what level you pay for) you can get your very own authentic designer bag. Plus, in the end you're out hundreds because while you got to borrow all these bags, you don't have one at the end (unless of course you decide to purchase a used bag)!

like all the others, i have to agree that the concept, though interesting at first, isn't really for the thinking fashionista.
just another overrated site.
