Try to make one out of tires! I thought of something looking like a boat, or banana, with some grafitti, maybe in red...
I guess the only problem will be findin' a tire which is light enuff  But I guess you could manage, :P
sounds fun! :P but i want to be able to sew as well and i'm not sure if i'll be able to find a machine which will cope w/tyres

I thought I posted the site for you, but it was when the site was wonky. Check out Natalie McCluggage's bags at www.hardwearstudio.com They aren't really recycled materials, but at least it could give you some ideas. Just as an aside, we also have hats made from metal mesh. I wish I had a pic of them for you, just for the sake of it.

Make a bag out of windowscreen(but not the screen more on the metal side, make it out of the more soft and pliable meshy kind)

thanx for the link :flower: some interesting bags

shower curtain :yuk: good idea but

luna, i actually made a bag out of mesh before . . . i'm not sure what you mean by windowscreen . . .

old postcards
cereal boxes

the plastic can holders-for those 6 packs?

but I do like cd's that with somefish lines... sounds great...

i guess just go with what you personally love or have around you...

I love these ideas! I hope that the cd one goes well because it sounds really cool. Please post pictures when you're done! :flower:

Shoot, I posted this and it got eaten.

Anyway: I just adore that cd bag idea ( ) and I was wondering whether you'd mind if I used it. I've been thinking about it all day and I've come up with a few ideas/variations, but I wanted to make sure that you wouldn't mind first.

If you don't want me to use your idea, I'll just use it as inspiration for my own creations. That assignment is so cool, though, and I love your solution! :flower:

I've seen several CD bags come out of people in my program.

They've all come out pretty crappy looking... I hope yours turns waaaay better.

Mesh and Windowscreen are a bit diff... mesh is a generally used material for anything fashionwise.

The reason I say Windowscreen is because I made a few cool sculptures and mobiles out of it, and they all turns out pretty damn cool. and I was thinking of doing windowscreen bags myself.. but just never got around to it.

You can pick up windowscreen at your local homedepot or whatever. i would imagine that it would be fairly easy to sew.

Duct tape has been done... and then done again...

It's completely crazy that I have the same assignment as you at the same time. I dunno.

I came up with a really good idea that I love. I hope it turns out well.

You could try to do some interesting things with bubblewrap.. but I'm sure that's been done too... I've seen bubblewrap thongs for chrissakes :yuk:

I really like your idea for the CD bag though.. to crush them... drill holes in the pieces and attach it to fabric to make a bag.. It would look so very cool.

But then again I like the windowscreen idea... Hell.. use both. windowscreen and cds. ;)

Hell.. use both. windowscreen and cds.

Then people would call you a visionary and you'd get a feature in ELLE, a poo-load of money, your own label and a guy named Ernest who's willing to be your ottoman. :flower:

:-P I plan on all of that. :D

Maybe my ottoman will be named Carl.

I hate logo overload on my lux items, so I'd hate them on my recycled ones too, i.e. tang and coke.

Good luck with the project though! And I think the CD idea is really cool!

that's great that you got some inspiration from my idea :woot:
just make sure you give me credit :winkiss: sure i don't mind if you use it :flower:

luna what kind of designs/ideas did the people with the crappy cd bags have?

i've made a sample using the idea of the cds as sequins . . . but i'm not too crazy about it
i'm thinking along the lines of something inspired by indian abhla {mirrorwork}

One of them was cd's cut and butted up against one another.. basically a box with a handle.. it sucked

another was the container that lots of burnable cds come in... chopped the top off and made a hinge using a CD as the flap... it was a good idea.. but execution didn't work out so well.

there was one more where she hung a lot of cds off of a bag.. but it got heavy, fell, and broke.

so in essence.. it sucked too. ;)

I still like the idea of your broken up pieces used as ornamentation... maybe you could show us a pick of your mock-up?

my sample sucked. it's messy & the cd pieces aren't as reflective as i'd like 'em
= / i gave up. i want it to work so bad.

i'm not sure. i might do something with mirrorwork idea.
i'm so confused.

My fiance, out of boredom I guess, made me a purse out of duct tape. He used black and red duct tape, giving it a striped appearance. It was actually not bad. He got the instructions on how to make it from Maxim Magazine. If you want, I could post a pic, hehe. :)

I'll try to post a pic when I get home. How about making a bag out of that bubble wrap stuff? :)
