Balenciaga F/W 09.10 Paris

Those draped pants and skirts are seriously unflattering. That collection is one big "meh".

well its nice in parts but i was expecting much more for some reason , considering he sets the bar for soooo many designers

this is totally unexpected for me.... i thought is a total new innovation of futuristic garments, but its totally different from what i have seen so far... and its totally different from the ordinary Balenciaga....

you know... for alllllllllllllllllllll of the other threads that say every collection is "too Balenciaga" -- well, I wish THIS were more Balenciaga.

It's like you can see what he was going for, only it's clear he failed and in the end, this looks really cheap.

^ Dead on.

I think I hate it

The draping is all so heavy and overdone. I mean, those draped skirts and pants are bulky. Combined with the fact that they're silk satin they just look terrible and, it pains me to say it, cheap.

The only look that I had a truly positive reaction to was the white shirt/black skirt combo on Iris. To me that was the only thing that looked right in this collection, the rest of it looks retro. Great that he took inspiration from YSL, but did it have to be the mid-80s portion of his career that he took it from?

I think the worst part of it all is that this collection is made up entirely of things he's done before, bold prints, draping, strong shoulders, head to toe looks....but I don't think any of it is working well here.

true and true ...
though there's one dress i like ...

those boot cut pants are nice , better than the dhoti ones

I think I hate it :(

I´m affraid I have to second that -_- Some pieces look nice, but I really don´t think the whole Balenciaga meets Yves thing will work for me, the printed pieces look awful. Plus it´s too bad they changed the location.

I really don't like the satin accents at all. Hate the shoes. This is the only Balenciaga collection I do not like.

I really would like him to intrepret YSL's collection 40, that was YSL at his peak, the 80s thing is getting tired now

I kind of love this. With an inspiration as seminal as YSL, it's very easy to go to the most famous points and times of that person's career, but this mid-80's look is an interesting, unexpected choice. That time period, for me, always seemed underappreciated and a little quirky.

Anyway, I really think Nicolas has made it Balenciaga enough. Those water-color hotel sheet dresses have beautiiful modern shoulders on a very tacky print, and I love it. I think the video will shed some light on the flattery of the draping.

Completely different from what I was expecting to see. Actually, I was expecting anything but this. I don't hate it, I'm just indifferent to it... Even though I love the prints/patterns/textures and I think they're the strengyh from this collection.
I'm so curious to see what stylists from press are going to do with it.
And also his version from the 80's has been my favorite so far.

well pilati has over refrenced the mid 80s period to death , and the vulgarity and rawness of collection 40 leaves a lot for the imagination , but none the less Balenciaga does YSL better than Pilati IMO , over all its a decent collection

^^^^ hahaha yeah there is a sue ellen vibe in those dresses hahahah
