Balenciaga F/W 2016.17 by Mark Borthwick

Listen, this guy is really arousing antagonism.
I find it very hard to judge his work properly.

WOW! People are really obsessed with Demna here;-))) I am not a big fan at all but so much hate. I actually quite like that he is not falling for celebrity/famous b*llsh*t... I thought we all had enough of this...

I think the first shot is wonderful...

He should do à la Phoebe/Hedi..No statements, no interviews, nothing!
What he is doing at Balenciaga is good, i mean i like it (because some people don't) but everytime i read one of his statement, i roll my eyes.

He should let his work do the work.

Ah, but he is, only in a far more subtle way. The haughtiness is very much evident in his quotes. Of course this type of behaviour is condoned in the fashion world, but most people see beyond the smoke and mirrors.

This looks like something Celine would do

balenciaga has been declining in relevance for years now ... only their accessories are good

Let be real here, it's a glorified lookbook and nothing more. The collection was good so it's really a shame that this is how they shot it. He could have established himself with something spectacular and original but instead he just gave us the same old thing we've been seeing for the past 5 years or so.

A black model in a Balenciaga campaign is refreshing though

It's good that he is paying attention to the critics. Black & Asian boys & girls in the shows and now a black girl in the ad.
It proves that it was a deliberate choice in the first place to exclude them but I like the embracement of diversity.

She looks good, like a Saint Laurent old-school model.
I quite like the campaign but it's not as iconic as it wanted to be...

It is veering more towards the lookbook territory! And so much for capturing areas where we 'live and work', it's awfully captured. When you have a dress which resembles loads of different materials draped across a body, there needs to be a bit of energy and movement!

I know I'm basically crying over spilled milk, but Chitose Abe's structuralism would've been a much better fit for Balenciaga.

Well, I haven't seen Kardashians wearing his clothes... and the entire fashion world seems to be designing with them in mind... I mean imagine Kim wearing one of his oversized pieces... I don't know. I need more evidence. The fact that they are trying to create a hype is not a big deal. Every brand needs publicity and sales... I dislike Vetement but I quite like how he brought it into Balenciaga... it is more subtle and less disturbing;-)

Kim may choose to incorporate single pieces, or the boots. Lol. Anyway, apparently Céline Dion was the first woman to wear a Balenciaga/Demna look! Odd choice, if you ask me. I wonder if it is because no celebrity lined up for A/W, or whether he was being ironic with the choice.

She changed her stylist recently and everything Demna seems to be very popular in the US (her new stylist is american i believe) + Celine is beyond super-popular here in France so the exposure is insane.
Anyway, Celine seems to be the type to be into the Next Big Thing. Remember, she was the first one to wear Balmain everywear 9 years ago.

Yikes, didn't know that, thanks for the info! In that case I suppose it was a strategic move to lend her the clothes knowing how much press she'll get. Actually not lend, because I also heard she's a paying customer.
Her music is so, I dunno, well let's just say it's not to my liking. I thought the immaculate taste of the French extends beyond just fashion, food and art..

You're in for a surpsise then, first country I've heard of, where every Tom, Dick and Harry who appears on The Voice goes on to become a pop-star

Ugh Loved the collection but these look like those amateur editorials that are published in Dazed magazine. I wish they could try something more clever.
