I feel like an ignorant fool right now. I bought a "genuine" Balenciaga mens tie on ebay, and now I just found out that they don't make mens clothes. Oh well, I didn't pay that much, and it really is a beautiful tie.
Have they ever made mens clothes? I almost don't want to wear it in public just in case someone knows about the brand and asks about the tie. Did they ever make ties for women perhaps? Or is it just a big fake?

Then why are there no men in their runway shows on their website? Why are they not listed on style.com under mens designers?

But in general, Ghesquiére doesn't do shows for men... If he decides to do a show for menswear, he usually includes them in the womenswear show, like Chanel & Ann Demeulemeester do.

Balenciaga men's clothes is merely in the showrooms, for different buyers to see.

Here are the pictures the seller provided.
I know that the most common print used has been the grey and black, but they've been using other colors too so I think there is a chance it might be genuine.

LOL! Its so old looking, not retro0-vintage-old, but like ancient, senile, cold-war generation old. I wouldn't normally go for paisley, I usually find it tacky, but for some reason I think I could do something with the tie and this new pair of big square green sunglasses I bought.

Balenciaga, just as many other Parisian couture houses, branched out with licensing deals in the seventies/eighties in which they sold their name to foreign companies which would end up using the label tag for skarves, socks, suits and even entire ready to wear collections (the most obvious licensing being fragrance, however). Artistically, it doesn't really have anything to do with the designer or his approach, it's just carrying the name of the brand.

Basically everything you'd find in an airport is licensing, and I am pretty much afraid your tie is an example of such a product as well

Yes, but there isn't anything that wrong with licensed goods as long as you aren't expecting it to be runway quality or style. In terms of quality, it's usually about one step above Wal-Mart or something similar. But it's definately an old licensed product. To be fair, a lot of designers are trying to get their liscenses back as they want the quality to be the same across the board. It's all very interesting.

Another example is a line of shoes and handbags produced in Spain and found in El Corte Ingles deparment stores and such. While good quality, they have nothing in common with the Balenciaga aesthetic. I once emailed Balenciaga through their website regarding these products, and received this reply:

the products that you have seen in "el corte ingles" is a license for womens leathergoods and shoes that exists since the late 80th.

nicolas ghesquiere has started to design the collection in 1998 and in 2001 the house was aquired by gucci. by the time, there were more the 70 licenses existing - out of which only 7 are still valid, and one concerns the goods that you have seen.

of final goal is of course that only balenciaga first line products will be distributed and visible to our final clients and we hope to reach this goal soon.

So I guess that means they are retaking the licences as they expire.

Yes, also occasionally unscrupulous Ebay sellers try to sell their licensed crap Balenciaga as the newer good stuff. The worst are the licensed button-down shirts that are worth about $10 being sold for $85 under the name "Balenciaga owned by Gucci Group.' Yes, the shirt is Balenciaga and YES, they are owned by Gucci group... but it is still false advertising. If you bought one and received it, you'd certainly know it wasn't the same thing.

That was old Demeulemeester, She has full menswear shows now...

I agree with everyone above, but hey, if you like the tie keep it. It doesn't look very much like the modern Balenciaga under Ghesquiere at all, but it's got a print that you like .
Balenciaga tags are different, they say Balenciaga.Paris in black on top of a cream tag, with a golden-yellow tag wrapped around the other tag saying "Made in {Italy - usually}". As far as I know, that's just for clothes though. I'm sure the Balenciaga.Paris part is standard for everything he does, though...
