The reality of the disparities of LFW + NYFW compared to MFW + PFW lies in the fact that the former ones doesn’t have an international market like the latter ones.
What is shown in NYFW has for first market the US. Those who wants some international whatever generally have their showrooms in Milan and Paris. And it’s the same for London it’s very local and it can’t stand next to the big ones who have a commercial reality.
We have seen so many badly cut or produced clothes during NYFW that I wonder is it’s selling. People are paying extra for cheap execution and fabrics and it’s insane. The ones who have the capacity to produce barely produces what is on the runway (Thom Browne) and so you have something that doesn’t stand on anything.
And Someone like Thom Browne is doing a favor to NY because he has a showroom in Europe.
It’s a bit the same for London to honest. London and NY are great for fashion because in the streets, there’s this energy but that’s all.
And tbh I don’t feel like there’s enough support from the authorities as there’s in France and Italy. The big Italian designers are some of the richest people in Italy so it has an economical weight that is translated in the support of fashion.
In Paris it’s the same. The richest man in the country and in the world comes from fashion so, the whole industry benefits from the fact that fashion is taken seriously. A young designer can show at a gallery, someone who is not making hundreds of millions can show at a fancy Embassy or Hotel Particulier…
Everything counts in making a Fashion week appealing to people to come.
