Balenciaga Resort 2024 Paris

Let's hope that it'll be better received than the last show:

Bizarre collection. It almost felt like a farewell with all the designs from previous shows.
Does anyone know when his contract expires?

It's actually kind of hilarious how meta his tenure turned out lol. But I kind of feel sorry for him? He must've thought he was on top of the world and the world was like no and put its foot on his neck to remind him who's boss. Being so self-proclaimed interested in the realism of social media and capitalism, yet pursuing his exploration through irony in such an obese dilettantish way (basically in the style of the people he was making fun of) he created this self-fulfilling prophecy of succumbing to and being annihilated by the corporate politics of what he was "critiquing".

It's not a bad collection at all but it's just more of the same.

It's become stale, even if I like some of it. I thought there would be a big pivot after the controversy and if there ever was a time to make one, it was the time. If he's going to go the self referential route, he can go back to some of his early collections for the house.

The video was done well.

not great, not bad. Just another Balenciaga collection. I'm still interested in Balenciaga but hesitant to buy.

As usual lately for Demna, the ending "evening" part with the elevated looks is the best.
Watching this collection is like watching what Vêtements has become : a cynical joke making fun of their own references.

Most of the other looks are really déjà "déja-vu" if I may say. Same for the accessories, the shoes.

And what a sad spring collection...grey Paris, rain, mostly black everywhere. I miss Demna making bold color blocking (like SS17).

I liked the concept of the video but seeing those looks in the streets makes you realize that you might look a fool wearing Balenciaga in the streets.
The eveningwear is fabulous of course but it feels like dragging a dead horse.

Usually brands get over controversies because the fashion is so good that the roaring minority has to bow down…That’s not the case here.

I love Cristobal and my wardrobe is full of Nicolas’s Balenciaga so I want this brand to be distanced from this mess but no matter what Pinault tries, having Demna here won’t help him.
I get that it’s probably cheaper to keep him at the helm than to fire him (because the motive wouldn’t be in the favor of KERING if they did) so I hope his contract will end soon.

If Galliano had to do it, then i don't feel sorry for him

I think that the issue here is that, shock and controversy is so central to the core of Demna's Balenciaga. Moving away from that would require a heavy change in the design and marketing aspect, something that Delna has shown he's incapable of doing.

In comparison, YSL used to (and still occasionally does) get in trouble for its "overly sexy imagery", but since Vaccarello's incarnation is more than the amount of nipples in a campaign, he easily can deliver beyond it. His Fall'20 and Spring'21 shows are obvious proof of that.

All in all, Balenciaga has a corporation, 100+ years of history and a successful 00s revival supporting the name. They will be fine and will rise once again. It just won't be under Demna's direction.

I'm being told that the morale in the studio is very low, the design team is on pins and needles, and that they are literally being sent pictures of preexisting garments and told to do just do a new version of them.
Internal bleeding…

I’m confused on why they don’t tap in Cristobal archives…

It’s the best time to go back to the spirit of the house..

Are these items shown best sellers anyway?

I actually feel bad for the design team. The worst thing is that Demna hires his team straight out of school, meaning that their breadth is probably only as wide as Demna's (as we've learned, not very wide at all).

Internal bleeding…

At this point, it's on its way to become a double prolapse accompagnied by hemorrhoids.

Balenciaga is definitely going to go into a "quiet, polite period" after Demna. It might fall to the wayside though, considering that Balenciaga seems to do it's best under a designer who is part master technician, part sartorial visionary (Cristobal, Ghesquière, Demna) then under a designer who just does "nice, pretty clothes".

It's not bad but it's also not revelatory. Also, I checked out from Balenciaga long time ago and I don't feel the need to go back.
