Balenciaga Resort 2024 Paris

I'm going to go out on a limb here but I quite like this!

There are three designers in my wardrobe that I can always count on: Prada, Margaret Howell and Balenciaga. Especially the latter. I skew to the more "anonymous" pieces that have killer details or surprises that elevate what looks mundane to something extraordinary and sophisticated.

For instance, every time I put on the reversible oversized stripe shirt I am constantly stopped by people on the street, ha ha. It seems so simple but radical at the same time, not to mention that it is a technical marvel realised in top-notch fabric. I feel cool yet like myself in it. Therein lies the strength of Demna.

The "show" is so wry, so drôle, so why-didn't-i-think-of-that? The Juliet Greco cover is perfect, especially as those dresses at the end are so very much la Muse de l'existentialisme.

I hope he stays put and I can't wait for the couture show.

My heart stopped when I saw those voluminous trenches. The black one's already mine and I'll be wearing it in my head till it hits the stores. Take note Daniel Lee.

I need to admit that the dress in 4:12 looks amazing in motion, that 8 seconds worth the entire video for me

A friend of mine very correctly defined this as a good Max Mara collection. I think he hit the spot.

But Max Mara is actually super high quality.

Demna's Balenciaga is one step up from Zara.
Max Mara is quiet luxury in the noble sense of the word. Good quality, good cut, timeless design and anonymous enough to not wear the wearer. And above all, prices that are honest.

I find it always weird that MM is not on conversations more when people talk about minimalism or timeless classic…Considering that it’s a brand worn by a lot of people actually.

‘Their current SS collection is stunning…Which can’t be said about Balenciaga outside of eveningwear.

Vanessa Friedman says it well...

While the cruise collection had some of that embedded within its signature oversize suits, puffer opera trenches and diva gowns — “drawstring” bags that looked like the string bags used to tote grocery produce; “towel” wrap skirts that looked like bathroom towels — such pieces no longer seem revolutionary. Like the ready-to-wear collection in March, they’re familiar.

That’s OK. As Hermès has proved, there is profit in consistency, if not excitement. And Demna can create truly gorgeous, sophisticated clothes, with the purity of line synonymous with the house. See one fan-pleated silk dress with winged sleeves that simultaneously suggests the body while framing it like a bas-relief. But the magic that was once there, that sense of gleeful, liberating, absurdist challenge?

That still hasn’t come back.

To be fair like what is he supposed to do? The money isn’t coming in like it used to and regardless, he can’t do any crazy bold moves right now. They have to lay low for quite some time to “atone”.

also I wonder how much they got paid to tell everyone balenciaga is making a comeback lol
